Jo Hyeon Woo is a South Korean footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. He graduated from Chung-Ang University affiliated High School and later obtained a bachelor's degree from Sun Moon University. He was inspired to become a goalkeeper after watching Kim Byung Ji in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He has played that position since elementary school and helped his high school and college during regional tournaments. After graduating university, he entered the 2013 K-League 1 draft and was picked by Daegu FC. The club was relegated and he had to play in the second division for a few years. In 2015, he became the first-choice goalkeeper for the club and won the prize for the best goalkeeper in K-League 2. In international competition, he was part of the South Korean U-20 and U-23 national teams before being called up to the first squad for World Cup qualifiers. He was part of the final roster for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but the plan was to bring him as the 3rd goalkeeper, however, he ended up being a starter in group stage matches against Sweden, Mexico and Germany as he was taller than the other 2 goalkeepers. Later that year, he was part of the squad that represented the country in the 2018 Asian Games and he helped the team secure a gold medal in football which also exempted him from mandatory military service. In 2020, he moved to his current club, Ulsan Hyundai.
