Recap Korean Drama "May It Please the Court 2022" Episode 6

Oct 5, 2022

May It Please the Court episode 6 starts with Kang-il’s body lying dead on the beach, his hands bound in a similar fashion as previous victims. At the law office, Chak-hee gets a call from Dae-han and asks Si-baek to go with her to meet the kids that weekend. He seems a bit shocked when he gets to know that the kids are at Kang-il’s children’s home.

At the crime scene, the detective gets a call that lets him know that although there is no sign of forced entry, the investigators found a 10-year-old boy in Kang-il’s home. Meanwhile, Kyung-jil is confused to learn that Si-baek became Young-ju’s lawyer out of the blue. She further tells her about Chak-hee getting slapped and Si-baek not knowing about her affair with Hyun-sik, leaving the detective confused.

After the questioning, Kyung-jil gets a call informing her about Kang-il’s murder, and she decides to check the case out herself. Meanwhile, Cha-hee is left baffled when a rumour comes up that points toward her being Hyun-sik’s mistress.

The news reaches Gi-do as well, who mentions that it wouldn’t matter if Chak-hee takes the fall for this mess; they can simply get someone else. However, when Kang-il’s death news reaches them, Gi-do takes another road down which he can gain sympathy points. At the law office, Si-baek promises to shut down the gossip channel as soon as possible.

At Backwoods Homemade Dumplings, Chi-sik takes care of Dal-jae and tells him that he will remember everything soon, as usual, and takes him home. But before that, he reminds Dal-jae of the torture he faced in a dark room and the stench of Mr Kim’s cigarettes. When he gets upset, Chi-sik promises to make those responsible for Dal-jae’s condition pay.

At the children’s home, Kyung-jil questions one of the employees and learns that Si-baek had come to the orphanage a few days ago. At his home, Si-baek burns all the pictures that he has of the already deceased and eventually talks to Chak-hee about their parents.

The next day, Chal-hee gets a concerning call from the police station that Dae-han is a witness to Kang-il’s murder. Meanwhile, Gi-do and the police chief decide to look into Lee Dong-pil and his whereabouts, considering three people have now died and the election is only drawing closer.

As the police chief and Jae-geun try to find dirt on Kyung-jil to no avail, she picks Do-chang up and questions him about his father’s violent tendencies and who actually hit him in the face. Meanwhile, Chak-hee goes to Dae-han’s rescue and asks him to be upfront with her and tell her everything that happened.

Dae-han seems not to remember anything, and Chak-hee’s worst fears seem not to have come to fruition with the kids. She takes both of them with her, and they decide to place them with Jun-woo’s mother for the time being. After she successfully drops both of them off at Jun-woo’s the next day, she gets a call from Kyung-jil, who asks her to come in for questioning.

Chak-hee is pretty direct with her answers and doesn’t hide anything from the police. However, when she starts to bring up the fact that Si-baek might be under scrutiny, Chak-hee immediately starts to defend him and play his rather suspicious behaviour off as a coincidence. She asks her whether they are in a relationship and Chak-hee, and after refuting it, she further provides Si-baek with an alibi for Seok-gu’s murder.

Outside the station, Chak-hee can’t help but wonder whether there’s some truth to Kyung-jil’s statements. She doesn’t want to believe it, but it has clearly had an impact on her. However, it’s also so easy to like Si-baek and his odd behaviours.

May It Please the Court Episode 6 Ending

When Chak-hee later goes to meet Joon-young, her mother tells her that after her daughter was raped, Jangsan helped the rapist punish her daughter instead and pushed her off the deep end. Chak-hee realises that she was on that case 8 years ago and feels absolutely horrible when she realises that all the hard work that she has done over the years has helped people like Jeon Jae-ho get away after doing horrible things.

As she breaks down on the street, Si-baek finds Jae-ho, signifying that he might be the next victim.

I think this episode is a bit better at creating a thrilling atmosphere instead of giving us two adults who constantly bicker about something or the other.

I have a wild suspicion that this is going to be like a Big Mouth case, wherein there is not one Big Mouse; it’s a group of people. I doubt that Si-baek is the only person who is doing all of this; he definitely has help. Or maybe he only runs surveillance, and someone else (Chi-sik?) carries out the murders.

Either way, May It Please the Court episode 6 brings forth a nice mystery which doesn’t seem to have too much at stake. Will we see more dirt being dug up, though?
