Recap Korean Drama "May It Please the Court 2022" Episode 3

Sep 28, 2022

May It Please the Court episode 3 starts Jwa Si-baek looking rather scary in his car after committing the ultimate murder. After he goes back home, he casually walks into his friend’s restaurant and starts eating dumplings as if nothing is wrong. It also turns out that the car is his friend, Chi-sik’s.

At the office that morning, meanwhile, Chak-hee acts like a spoilt brat even after getting thrown out of work but turns that around by throwing money at Young-soo to get him to work for her. Si-baek is shocked but really can’t say anything.

On the other hand, we find Gi-do owning the same watch as the killer from the last episode, so we have one more suspect to look at. Either way, Gi-do’s relationship with his wife is rather strained as she constantly looks down on him, and I have a feeling that it’s going to blow up in her face one day soon. Either way, when news reaches him about Hyun-sil’s murder, he is left shocked, although she really doesn’t care either way.

Gi-do and the police officer later have a discussion regarding what to do and who could’ve murdered Hyun-sik, but Gi-do doesn’t seem too shocked at the murder – Hyun-sik had too many enemies and committed too many sins. Either way, Gi-do looks concerned when the officer tells him that the last call that Chun-sik made was to Chak-hee.

Back at the office, Chak-hee gets a new client who suffers from a mental illness. She doesn’t seem to have the insight to take on such cases but later on, seems to be extremely sure of herself in defending her client. She assures the mother that she will stop her son from going to prison, but Si-baek reminds her that things are usually not so simple for those who take the help of public defenders.

However, upon further thought, Chak-hee realises that she doesn’t want to continue working like this and tries it use a reporter acquaintance of hers to get out of the mess. She promises him too that she will get her latest client out of prison, but Reporter Park refuses to do it before the results are out on the case.

Meanwhile, there’s tension brewing on the surface between Ha-ran and Gi-do – the latter is using the media to throw dirt at Yulhu Construction and even threatens to throw his wife in prison if she doesn’t help him make headway on the political scene. Without many options left, Ha-ran agrees, especially when faced with the fear that she will lose Yulhu if she doesn’t play her cards right.

That night, Chak-hee gets another taste of her grandmother’s dumplings and, the next day, gets ready to defend Lee Gui-dong. But before going to the courtroom, she reminds his mother of how good of a job she is doing and how she should be thankful. However, the case doesn’t go as well inside the courtroom because Gui-dong, now liking Chak-hee, refuses to throw a fit like usual.

She tries to console herself by parroting Si-baek’s words, but all take a backseat when Gi-do tells her over a phone call that Hyun-sik was murdered. He asks her who was with her that night, and she immediately runs to Si-baek to tell him what happened. However, Si-baek is rather cool about it and tells her not to worry since nothing will happen.

He goes to talk to the police afterwards, who point out the coincidences of his relationship with Chak-hee and the situations they were in. However, that does not go as planned as the police surmise that Si-baek and Chak-hee must be in love. Si-baek, however, takes care of the silly finger-pointing and essentially asks them to do a better job instead of trying to get it over with according to their convenience.

The next morning, a rather tensed Chak-hee finds out that Gui-dong was, in fact, sent to a year and 6 months in prison. All that overconfidence takes a more hilariously serious turn as his mother calls her to ask for help. Si-baek asks her to do Gui-dong’s mother a favour, considering she’s done numerous such favours in the past, and she says that she shouldn’t have to pay for his commissionary fund since this entire trial was a loss for her.

He asks her to ask her mother for a fee to do the favour, and she gets called to Gui-dong’s home to collect the payment. Clearly, they are very poor people, and after walking a long way, Chak-hee finally reaches their home. However, seeing her state makes her relent on taking the fees and promises to give the money to Gui-dong.

At the prison, Chak-hee asks for Si-baek’s help to meet Gui-dong and write the application. Once inside, she again has a humbling experience as she helps him learn how to read the time and asks him to stay healthy until his mother’s visit. As she gets up to leave, Gui-dong tells her all the reasons why she is a good person and later gets a kite from him as well.

May It Please the Court Episode 3 Ending

While flying the kite, she remembers how she flew a kite with Byung-chun when her grandmother died, a rather sad and hopeful moment for her.

Unfortunately for her, as the kite gets stuck on electric lines, she gets up on the terrace wall to get it down and almost falls over when out of nowhere, Si-baek gets there and stops her from falling over to sure death.

May It Please the Court episode 3 doesn’t really push the story forward much. I am interested to see Gi-do and what Si-baek is up to. However, the story focuses on Chak-hee being a brat and slowly learning how to be humble. I liked the Gui-dong storyline; it was rather sweet, but there are more interesting things to figure out in the story, and I am desperate to know where that goes.
