Night Has Come (2023) K Drama Episode 8

Dec 20, 2023

Night Has Come episode 8 starts with Kyung-joon and Min-ha leaving Yoon-joon for dead after hitting him multiple times with a brick over his head. In a flashback, we learn that Yoon-joon was a doctor who saved Jun-hee and another student. Initially, he wanted to save his girlfriend, but he couldn’t. Apparently, there has to be a cooling period before he uses his healing skills again.

Elsewhere, Yoon-seo and Jun-hee try to look for the photo album to present as evidence to their colleagues.

The announcer soon informs the students that Yoo-joon is dead and he was a doctor. The students are shocked to hear someone was killed during the day. They immediately rush to find him and investigate what happened. Everyone is scared that the mafias have escalated and want to end the game quickly.

Yoon-seo is quick to deduce that Yoon-joon didn’t die at the hands of the mafia. She starts analysing the scene and taking photos. Jun-won helps her, and they find a hidden bloody brick. They also find a familiar footprint and a piece of a shoe sole.

In the meantime, the other students help to take Yoon-joon’s body to the freezer and reconvene to discuss the latest incident. They ask why Yoon-joon was killed and express their frustrations with the mafia. At the same time, Eun-chan discovers a message written on the wall. The message is supposedly from the police, naming Jun-hee and Da-bum as mafias.

As expected, the message causes quite a stir among the students. They are curious to know if Jun-hee is a citizen or a mafia. Jun-hee arrives and insists he is not a mafia. Yoon-seo backs him up and insists the message might be fake to mislead them. So-mi tries to accuse Yoon-seo of writing the message asking why she is late to the meeting. Of course, Ju-won quickly comes to her best friend’s defense.

Kyung-joon takes down the message and tears it apart. He demands that the students reveal their identities in the game by showing each other their messages. However, Yoon-seo points out there is no need. She is sure that she found out who killed Yoon-joon.

Curious, the students head to a room, and Yoon-seo shows them a picture of the footprint found at the crime scene. She also shows the students the part of a shoe sole they found.

Jun-hee explains that basketball players use that shoe accessory a lot. The attention immediately turns to Kyung-joon and Min-ha, who are wearing sports shoes. Kyung-joon quickly agrees to show his shoes, but Min-ha hesitates. The students grab him and see that the shoe sole accessory belonged to him. The students are shocked, and Min-ha tries to beg for forgiveness.

He lashes out at Kyung-joon, saying he was the one who killed the doctor. They start fighting, but Kyung-joon is stronger and overwhelms Min-ha. In the heat of the moment, Kyung-joon slips and mentions the brick. This gets the attention of Yoon-seo and Ju-won, who never mentioned it.

The students realise that Kyung-joon was involved in the murder as well. Kyung-joon and Min-ha continue to fight and accuse each other. Jun-hee tries to stop them and is hurt in the process. Yoon-seo tries to step in and is shoved away. After seeing this, Jun-hee’s anger explodes, and he punishes Kyung-joon. Things finally calm down after more students intervene.

As the situation blows over, Kyung-joon points out that a marker fell from Min-ha’s pocket. He accuses Min-ha of writing the message on the wall. The students grow more suspicious of Min-ha even as he explains he never wrote the message.

Ultimately, the students lock Min-ha and Kyung-joon in different rooms and take away their phones. Jun-hee promises they will get their phones before voting time ends. So-mi tries to get the keys to the snack bar, but Kyung-joon insists he doesn’t have them. Min-ha and Kyung-joon remain adamant they are citizens even as they get locked up.

After this, So-mi and Choi Mi-na recruit Da-bum to help them find the keys to the cafeteria because it is the safest place to be. Not even an axe can go through the shutters.

In the meantime, Yoon-seo treats Jun-hee’s wounds and checks if he is okay. After this lovey-dovey, cute moment, they return to the others. However, before leaving the clinic, Yoon-seo finds Povidone and suspects it was used to write the message on the wall.

The students hold a meeting and discuss the way forward with Kyung-joon and Min-ha. Jun-hee argues that they should still be allowed to vote. The students agree to return the two culprits’ phones around voting time. They argue back and forth about who between the two is suspicious, and Yoon-seo reveals she is disturbed by Yoon-joon’s death. Usually, the announcer says someone has been executed, but this time, she said Yoon-joon is dead.

They discuss more, and the students ask the police to use their skills and reveal the identities of Kyung-joon and Min-ha. Yoon-seo disagrees and says that would endanger the life of the police. Meanwhile, Kyung-joon and Min-ha anxiously await their fates as time ticks. After the meeting, the students hide while Jun-hee returns Mih-ha’s phone. Min-ha begs for mercy, but Jun-hee tells him they showed none to Yoon-joon.

While Min-ha realises he has been voted out, Kyung-joon takes comfort in the fact that he got “insurance.” It turns out he was the one who wrote the message on the wall. However, it turns out he celebrated his win too early. Da-bum, So-mi and Mi-na accost him, demanding for the cafeteria keys. They threaten him, and he shows them where he hid the keys.

Da-bum returns him to his room and tricks him to get in and fetch his phone. With time running out, Kyung-joon rushes to grab his phone, and Da-bum locks him in. As expected, Kyung-joon threatens him and tries to break the door down using a chair. After the voting ends, Min-ha, a citizen, is executed, and So-mi and Mi-na hide in the cafeteria.

On the other hand, Kyung-joon recalls how he was framed, and he found the axe and the blood shirts outside his hiding spot. He starts planning how he will avenge himself the next day. Unfortunately, Da-bum, a mafia, has other plans for our bully.

He mocks Kyung-joon, and they fight before the latter passes out. Kyung-joon is shocked to realise Da-bum got one over him. As soon as Kyung-joon falls fully asleep, Da-bum puts earphones on him. He is aware that the last sense humans lose while dying is hearing and doesn’t want Kyung-joon to listen to himself die.

The Episode Review

Kyung-joon and Min-ha mercilessly killed Yoon-joon and their death somewhat feels deserved. Kyung-joon counted his chickens before they hatched and he never thought the mafia would come for him.

As the citizens continue dying, the mafias might win the game. They have proven to be a formidable team, perfectly framing people and tricking the others to do their dirty jobs. The citizens need to get a grip and put their heads in the game before they lose it. With four more chapters left, the end looks imminent for the citizens. Will they emerge successful?
