Night Has Come (2023) K Drama Episode 9

Dec 21, 2023

Night Has Come episode 9 starts with a flashback of Kyung-joon bullying Ju-won and Da-bum at the centre. At this time, the students got a message about the game and their identities. Da-bum was notified that he is a mafia.

A few days later, we see Da-bum standing over Seung-bin as he sleeps and stabs him multiple times. It is important to note that Da-bum removed his uniform and wore an apron. He is covering his tracks and ensuring he doesn’t get caught with blood on his hands. After killing Seung-bin, Da-bum gives So-mi the axe and a bloody shirt to place outside Kyung-joon’s hiding place.

Presently, Da-bum and So-mi argue about whether they should kill Kyung-joot. Da-bum believes they have to kill him since Kyung-joon knows he is a mafia. So-mi leaves and lets Da-bum handle the dirty business. While killing Kyung-joon, Da-bum forgets to take Kyung-joon’s phone with him.

The following morning, the students wake up to the news of Kyung-joon’s death and find it ironic that he died on the same day as Min-ha. The others agree to help Kyung-joon’s body, but So-mi and Choi Mi-na refuse.

As the hours pass, Da-bum worries if he is being suspected while the students get anxious over who the mafias are. Da-bum breeds mistrust in Eun-chan and Yeon-woo by making them doubt Yoon-seo. He points out that Yoon-seo is suspicious because the two people she suspected are dead, and she is always in a hurry to move the bodies.

On the other hand, So-mi tries to rally Na-hee and Choi Mi-na to vote against Yoon-seo. Mi-na asks to talk to her privately and reveals that she suspects Da-bum. However, So-mi tries to dissuade her, saying they have no evidence. As they talk, Eun-chan and Yeon-woo find them at the cafeteria. They start suspecting the two ladies since Kyung-joon was the only one with access to the canteen.

The boys demand to know how the girls found the keys. So-mi lies that they saw Kyun-joon hiding it the previous day. Thankfully, Yeon-woo buys their excuse and thinks they are only selfish for wanting the food for themselves.

Meanwhile, Jun-hee, Yoon-seo and Jung-won fear they are running out of time, with only 9 of them left. Jung-won insists they must find the mafia, and Yoon-seo hopes they can solve the host mission and end the game. They agree they can’t afford to lose another citizen. They start looking for clues about the host.

They came across a drawer that won’t open and decide to get tools and break it down. While getting the tools, Jun-hee comes across Kyung-joon’s phone and wonders how it got there. He starts to recall that he had given it to Da-bum. The plan was for Da-bum to take the phone to Kyung-joon when it was time to vote. It makes no sense that the phone was in the store.

In the meantime, Yoon-seo finds the button to open the mysterious door. Inside, she finds a small wooden locker and opens it using the key she was given. In the locker, she finds a class photo. She receives a message to check the name of the ghost host, and Park Se-eun is revealed to be the host. Immediately, she says the name out loud, the lights flicker, and everyone is surprised.

The students then receive a message about Park Se-eun being the game host. Suddenly, all their memories flood in, and they remember who Se-eun was. She was a fellow classmate who committed suicide. The students hold an impromptu meeting and try to figure out how Se-eun is related to the game. They worry that the ghost Yoon-seo kept mentioning was Se-eun.

So-mi tries to frame Yoon-seo and asks what she knows about the game since she was close to Se-eun. Jung-won mention that there is a rumour that Se-eun didn’t kill herself but was killed. So-mi seems flustered by this revelation, and Yoon-seo points out that maybe Se-eun is seeking revenge through the game. If she was truly killed, then Se-eun’s killer must be amongst them, and they should find out who that person is.

As the students start thinking about the possible suspects, they wonder if the culprits are the mafias. Woo-ram and So-mi were known to have issues with Se-eun. The students wonder if the game was meant to punish Woo-ram, who broke Se-eun’s heart. However, they question what the other mafias did wrong to Se-eun and who they might be.

After the meeting, So-mi and Na-hee talk privately. Na-hee tries to convince So-mi to come forward and admit they bullied Se-eun and that they might be the reason she died. However, So-mi insists they did nothing wrong and asks Na-hee to get a grip and shut her mouth. She later informs Da-bum that Na-hee is tripping and might reveal the truth about Se-eun.

As expected, Da-bum says Na-hee is So-mi’s problem as he has already killed everyone who knows about his role in the Se-eun saga. The only ones who can speak up are So-mi and Na-hee, and they will incriminate themselves if they do. He threatens So-mi to get Na-hee in line, or the other mafias won’t protect her.

Elsewhere, Jun-hee tells Yoon-seo and Jung-won about his discovery. The three look for more evidence in the room and try to piece together what happened. Yoon-seo starts suspecting they fell for the mafias’ trick and voted Min-ha and Kyung-joon out.

At the same time, Mi-na starts losing it after remembering Se-eun. She worries that the ghost of vengeance is upon them. So-mi changes her tune and begins talking about Da-bum being suspicious. She also brings up Na-hee as a possible suspect.

Soon, night draws by, and Yoon-seo interrogates Da-bum about Kyung-joon’s phone. Da-bum plays the fool and says he went to see Kyung-joon along with So-mi and Mi-na. This draws more suspicion on So-mi and Na-hee since they have the cafeteria keys. So-mi lies that she saw Kyung-joon hiding the keys and refuse they ever did anything bad to Se-eun.

The more they deny, the more Eun-chan and Yeon-woo bring up the past. Eun-chan directly asks them if they are the mafias. So-mi asks them to wait and reveals she knows about the person who started a rumour about a scandalous video by Se-eun. Without blinking, she votes for Na-hee and accuses her of being the video’s distributor. Mi-na follows suit, and Na-hee insists she is innocent.

The students are in disbelief and ask if the video exists, to which Mi-na replies it does. Na-hee attacks So-mi and asks her to tell the truth. However, So-mi remains cold-hearted, and the students look at Na-hee suspiciously.

The episode ends with Na-hee asking So-mi to take responsibility for her accusation and reveal her identity. Na-hee says she is the police and reveals that So-mi is the mafia.

The Episode Review

The twist at the end was the highlight of the episode. So-mi didn’t expect Na-hee to put up a worthy fight and thought she would get away with killing her. The joke is on her because now she is the one dying. With her identity revealed, So-mi is pretty much dead, and there is no way to save her.

On the other hand, Na-hee has put a target on her back by revealing she is the doctor. Da-bum and Jung-won will come for her, and who knows if anyone will make it out alive.

Lastly, we have so many questions about Se-eun. Who is she? What happened, and what video did Woo-ram blackmail her with? Other than So-mi, Mi-na, Da-bum, Woo-ram and Na-hee, who else was involved in bullying her? We are also curious as to why Jung-won is a mafia. What did she do to Se-eun?
