A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023) Episode 14 (Final Episode)

Jan 11, 2024

The season finale of A Good Day To Be A Dog starts with the hound dogs disappearing as soon as Ji-ah tells the truth about her past self. Specifically that of Cho-young’s death. Hae-na suddenly gets back all her memories and embraces Seo-won.

Are Seo-won and Hae-na still together?

The episode jumps one year later to the week before Garam High School’s Night Festival. Hae-na and Seo-won are still keeping their relationship a secret. Hae-na’s students ask her to direct a play for them to perform at the festival. Ms Yoon flaunts the engagement ring she got from her new boyfriend.

Meanwhile, the other teachers at the school notice Hae-na and Seo-won’s romance in secret but say nothing about it. Later that night, Hae-na wonders what she could do to surprise Seo-won on his birthday. Suggestions from Yu-na are of no help for Hae-na.

What happens to Yu-na and Woo-taek?

The following day, Yu-na introduces Woo-taek to her parents as her boyfriend for the first time. Yu-na’s parents tell the couple how Uncle Dong-cheol is doing and state that he is dating a school teacher. Yu-na wonders how Dong-cheol’s relationship is going as he is still unable to speak like a human because of the curse.

Does Uncle Dong-cheol find love?

We see Dong-cheol on a date with his girlfriend – Ms Yoon. The latter is unaware of the fact that Dong-cheol cannot talk because he only listens to her and gives her expensive jewellery every time she asks him to speak. Ms Yoon helps Dong-cheol from choking on his food and the latter ends up barking at her (while thanking her for saving his life). Ms Yoon gets scared of Dong-cheol and flees away.

What does Hae-na plan for Seo-won’s birthday?

Hae-na takes Seo-won on a dog-walking date. Seo-won is alert but ends up getting close to one of the dogs at the shelter with Hae-na’s help. Seo-won names the dog Deok-gu and thanks Hae-na for helping him overcome his fear.

That night, Hae-na think about her gift to Seo-won on his birthday. She recalls their romantic journey and decides to write a play that her students could perform based on their lives. The next day, a casting agent shows up at school, asking Seo-won to participate in the popular dating show – ‘Single Dog’s Inferno’ – totally not inspired by real-life events.

Seo-won refuses to take part in the show and upon noticing Hae-na’s jealousy, publicly declares his relationship with Hae-na in front of the other teachers. Meanwhile, Yul talks to Ji-ah caringly and asks her to keep healthy now that Bo-kyeom is missing. Ji-ah knows how she can get in touch with the Vice Principal and tries to trap the reincarnated fox.

Does Seo-won get over his fear of dogs?

Someone adopts Deok-gu so Seo-won goes to drop the animal off at his new house. However, he notices that the man is neglectful of Deok-gu’s health and decides to adopt the dog himself. At the same time, Hae-na rehearses the play with her students as they prepare for the festival the following night.

The next morning, Yul prepares a lineup of food for Seo-won to celebrate his birthday. The school and the students get ready for the night festival as they all dress as scary creatures from South Korean mythology. Seo-won talks to Hae-na and wonders what they should do after the festival is over.

Do Hae-na and Seo-won have a happy ending?

Hae-na pretends to forget Seo-won’s birthday and asks him to see her play. Ji-ah meets Seo-won and notices the dejected look on his face. She jokes with him and goes outside to meet the Vice Principal. Ji-ah traps the Vice Principal by pretending to be a board game seller and asks him where Bo-kyeom is.

At the same time, Hae-na and Seo-won go to see Dong-cheol who was also at the school to cheer up after his breakup. Hae-na is called in to set up for her play while Seo-won waits behind to keep Dong-cheol company. Dong-cheol notices the Vice Principal running from Ji-ah and starts chasing after him. Seo-won joins them and the trio chases after the reincarnated fox.

Eventually, Seo-won manages to catch the Vice Principal. The trio take him inside and Dong-cheol asks the creature to give him his human voice back. He is disappointed to learn that the reincarnated fox has no power to do so.

How does A Good Day To Be A Dog end?

Hae-na’s students enact the play and receive praise from the audience. Hae-na keeps looking out for Seo-won in the audience but ends up disappointed when she realises that Seo-won missed the play. Seo-won drops Dong-cheol home and ends up getting a video of Hae-na’s play.

Seo-won watches the entire thing on his phone and gets emotional recalling all his memories with Hae-na. He watches Hae-na walk back home disappointed and runs up to kiss her.

Dong-cheol finally gets his voice back as he continues to think about Ms. Yoon. He calls her and as it turns out, Ms Yoon missed him too. Woo-taek and Yu-na select their wedding outfits while Ji-ah ends up taking the reincarnated fox’s help to find Bo-kyeom.

The episode ends with Ji-ah asking Bo-kyeom to date for real and the two light sky lanterns by the beach to celebrate their relationship.

The Episode Review

After watching this entire episode, the makers dragged this thing on for longer than they should have. For the first time in years, it was not Cha Eunwoo’s acting that made the show a hard watch but it was the airing schedule coupled with the weak plot that ruined this one.

Many viewers may have loved the series but the finale clearly was a filler with happy moments throughout, making for a rather boring watch. I wish we saw more of Bo-kyeom and his reasons for running away from Ji-ah. The show is a comedy-drama but the comedy in this episode feels forced.

Despite Cha Eunwoo and Park Gyo-young’s impeccable chemistry, this show fails to make a lasting impact. Well, now that it has ended, we can put this one to rest after three whole months.
