A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023) Episode 10

Dec 15, 2023

Episode 10 of A Good Day To Be A Dog starts with a flashback from the past where Bo-kyeom (aka The Mountain God) finds Seo-won’s (aka Soo-hyun’s) sword on Ji-ah (aka Cho-young) as she lies dead. The episode moves back to the present where Seo-won is outside Bo-kyeom’s trailer where he sees the dog keychain Hae-na gifted him.

Bo-kyeom comes outside and puts the sword on Seo-won’s neck. After making a sinister comment about death and the sword, Bo-kyeom asks Seo-won to leave. Seo-won takes the keychain and goes without any discussion. The Vice Principal comes out of Bo-kyeom’s trailer and wonders if it is necessary to do all this to Seo-won as he seems like a good person.

Bo-kyeom tells the Vice Principal that he is no longer a mountain god but someone looking for revenge. The next day, Hae-na and Seo-won go out on a desert date. Seo-won talks to Hae-na about the changes in Bo-kyeom’s reactions towards him. Hae-na asks Seo-won to treat Bo-kyeom better in order to win his favour back.

Seo-won notices that Hae-na is not keeping well but the latter insists they walk back home together. On their way, Hae-na is confused when she notices a dog flee from her instead of coming up to her like they usually did. She tells Seo-won how she felt but the latter does not mind it much.

As it turns out, the bracelet Bo-kyeom made the Vice Principal hand over to Hae-na was cursed and caused Hae-na to fall sick and for the dogs to dislike her. Yu-na tells Hae-na that she is running a fever but Hae-na still gets ready for her date with Seo-won. Seo-won gets a call from Yu-na who tells him that Hae-na is not well.

Yu-na asks Seo-won to come over and leaves the house for the two of them. Seo-won sees Hae-na lying in bed and cuddles with her. Hae-na snuggles up to Seo-won in her sleep while the Math teacher tries to make his girlfriend feel better. The students go on a museum trip with the teachers where Seo-won and Hae-na try to spend more time together observing ancient relics.

A flashback from the past shows Hae-na (aka Mak-soon) and Cho-young together when Cho-young is pregnant. Soo-hyun watches Mak-soon from afar. Back to the present day, Ji-ah watches Hae-na and Seo-won together at the museum. Yul asks Ji-ah to keep the relationship between the two teachers a secret.

Meanwhile, Bo-kyeom looks at the funeral outfits that women were dressed in during ancient times and is reminded of Cho-young’s dead body from the past. Another flashback from the ancient period shows how The Mountain God had been waiting for Cho-young to show up at the temple but she hadn’t visited for a year.

Cho-young, on the other hand, is heavily pregnant and Mak-soon is a servant who works for her. A nobleman Soo-hyun likes Mak-soon and the two start flirting with each other. The Judiciary Chief tells Soo-hyun that Cho-young was the wife of a traitor who committed treason. He asks Seo-won to arrest her immediately.

Soo-hyun rushes to warn Cho-young and Mak-soon about it and helps them flee before the royal guards arrive. Mak-soon pretends to be Cho-young and flees with Soo-hyun to give Cho-young a chance to escape the guards who are tailing them. Cho-young ends up falling off the edge of a tiny cliff and tumbles down hitting her pregnant stomach on a stone as she passes out.

Soo-hyun fights the royal guards to save Mak-soon. He asks her to protect Mak-soon and promises to return soon. At the same time, The Mountain Guard finds Cho-young and takes her to his temple where Ttaeng Pal (aka the Vice Principal from the present time) tends to her. The Mountain God tells Ttaeng Pal that the child in Cho-young’s womb has already died.

Meanwhile, Mak-soon grows restless looking for Cho-young everywhere. Days go by and Cho-young mourns the death of her child. She tries to end her life but The Mountain God tries to stop her again and again. Cho-young eventually goes back to her own house. Mak-soon tries to cheer her up but is not successful.

The Mountain God asks Ttaeng Pal to send a dog to Cho-young as the animal embodies the spirit of her dead baby. Mak-soon notices that Cho-young seems like herself again since the arrival of the dog but does not realise that Cho-young’s friendship with the Mountain God was helpful too.

Three months go by when Mak-soon notices that Cho-young is doing much better. She asks her permission to visit the village to get Soo-hyun’s whereabouts. At the same time, the Judiciary Chief tortures Soo-hyun, asking him about Cho-young’s whereabouts.

The Mountain God asks Cho-young to be wary of Mak-soon and Soo-hyun but Cho-young has a lot of faith in her childhood friend and maid servant, Mak-soon. At the same time, The Mountain God senses the royal guards coming up to the mountains and flees with Cho-young.

Despite his attempts, The Mountain God asks Cho-young to flee to the shrine while he uses some of his powers to fight the royal guards. However, Cho-young flees to the mountain, looking for The Mountain God and ends up being found by Soo-hyun and Mak-soon as the former points his sword at her.

The Mountain God defeats all the royal guards and finds Soo-hyun’s sword lodged into Cho-young’s stomach as she lies lifeless and is not able to protect Cho-young from the guards. The episode ends with present-day Bo-kyeom entering Woo-taek’s veterinary clinic where he kills Hae-na’s uncle (the one who turned into a dog forever).

The Episode Review

Out of so many shows that feature past and present timelines, it seems like this one has the most well-paced progression. Many fans wondered what the rest of the show would be about after Episode 8 but we can be certain that the next four will have a lot going on.

The connection between the past and the present does not seem forced and I am looking forward to seeing Seo-won and Bo-kyeom clash. We know that Hae-na and Seo-won are together and it is also clear that Ji-ah will be ending up with Bo-kyeom which makes me worry for Yul. The boy will have not one but two heartbreaks in a single K-drama which seems unfair.

From what we see, it is portrayed that Soo-hyun (Seo-won) was the one to kill Cho-young (Ji-ah) but I am certain that whatever The Mountain God (Bo-kyeom) saw was nothing else but a misunderstanding.

Ji-ah may be able to see the truth, all thanks to her skills as a shaman which will hopefully end the rivalry between Bo-kyeom and Seo-won and eventually Hae-na’s curse!
