3 Questions About Key Relationships In The Next Two Episodes Of “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One”

Feb 19, 2022

With tvN’s “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” flying high in ratings and buzzworthy rankings, the drama unveiled three key questions and points to look out for in the upcoming episodes 3-4.

Set in 1998, “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” tells the story of youth whose dreams were taken from them due to the IMF crisis. Kim Tae Ri stars as Na Hee Do, an aspiring fencer, and Nam Joo Hyuk stars as Baek Yi Jin, whose family was torn apart due to the financial crisis, as they first meet at 18 and 22 years old and fall in love years later at age 21 and 25.

Spoilers

“Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” promised that the relationships surrounding the characters would get a boost in episodes 3-4. Here are three questions that remain to be answered:

1. Angry Hee Do x Confused Baek Yi Jin

What happened to the bright smiles of Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin as they comforted each other? Instead, the two are surrounded by a cold atmosphere. In episode 2, Na Hee Do took Baek Yi Jin to the old school taps and turned it into a fountain to cheer him up after learning he’d lost everything in the IMF crisis. At the time, she told him, “When we’re together, let’s be happy for a moment in secret. This is a secret between the two of us.”

But in stills for the upcoming episodes, Na Hee Do is flushed with anger as she looks at Baek Yi Jin, while he looks confused and taken aback by her change in attitude. The two had built up the foundation for a strong friendship by sharing their worries and emotional scars with each other, but cracks are starting to appear in that foundation.

2. Straightforward Ji Woong x National Representative Fencer Yoo Rim

Social butterfly Moon Ji Woong (Choi Hyun Wook) and fencer Go Yoo Rim (WJSN’s Bona), who competes as a representative of the national team, ended up in the same class at school. Moon Ji Woong confidently introduces himself to Go Yoo Rim as “the pretty one in the class” and straightforwardly shows his interest in her. Go Yoo Rim coolly says hi and passes him by, but secretly smiles when she’s out of sight.

In a completely different vibe, a still from the drama shows the two of them carrying a cloth and a kimchi container over their heads as they walk together, bright and carefree, in the pouring rain. Go Yoo Rim has only shuttled back and forth between her house and fencing her whole life, prompting curiosity at how she’d become so close to Moon Ji Woong, and how their relationship will develop.

3. Awkward meeting of the Taeyang High students

In one group still from the drama, five former and current Taeyang High school students are sharing a meal together. Baek Yi Jin is a former member of the Taeyang High broadcasting club, while Na Hee Do and Go Yoo Rim are current members of its fencing team. Moon Ji Woong and Ji Seung Wan (Lee Joo Myung) are their classmates, and Ji Seung Wan is also the No. 1 ranked student in the school.

Despite having a lot in common, the atmosphere around the table is incredibly awkward. Na Hee Do focuses solely on eating her food, while Baek Yi Jin gulps down water. Go Yoo Rim holds her spoon and fixes her gaze on someone, while Moon Ji Woong and Ji Seung Wan share uneasy glances around the table. What is the situation that gathered all these Taeyang High students here and why is it so awkward between them?

Episodes 3-4 of “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” will air on February 18 and 19 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
