Jan 4, 2019

On January 3, the production press conference for the new Monday-Tuesday tvN drama “The Crowned Clown” (Script by Kim Seon Deok, directed by Kim Hui Won) was held in the Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea. Actors Yeo Jin Goo, Lee Se Young, Kim Sang Kyung, Jung Hye Young, Jang Gwang, Kwon Hae Hyo, and director Kim Hui Won took part in the event.
Yeo Jin Goo who is portraying the roles of both King Lee Heon and the clown Ha Seon in the drama opened up about his concerns before working on the drama by saying, “I really like the original movie the drama is based on. Therefore, I actually worried a lot about taking part in the drama. I was concerned over whether it really was okay for me to take on a role in this production.”

He then went on to add, “But then I thought about how often I, as an actor, would get the chance to play two characters at once. Ever since then, I became greedy for this role. The characters in the original movie are very charming themselves, so I wanted to have the chance to express that myself. I received help from many people while preparing for this role on the set such as the director and my fellow castmates.”
Actress Lee Se Young also talked about working with Yeo Jin Goo and stated, “I tried to get closer to Jin Goo for the sake of the romance in the drama. I was worried about Jin Goo feeling uncomfortable since I’m older than him, but he actually takes care of me on the set. He seems like an oppa (older brother in Korean) and a cool king.”
Yeo Jin Goo responded to this by commenting, “I was happy when I found out that I would be working we Se Young noona (older sister in Korean). I’m feeling comfortable while filming since Se Young noona approached me first on the set. We are working very well together.”
Lee Se Young further complimented Yeo Jin Goo by saying, “Yeo Jin Goo is doing very well at portraying the roles of two characters at once.” Yeo Jin Goo then briefly touched on the romance in the drama and stated, “I put the focus in my romance acting on how differently Lee Heon and Ha Seon perceive So Woon (Lee Se Young).”
“The Crowned Clown” is a remake of the legendary 2012 movie “Masquerade” which racked up 10 million moviegoers. It tells the story of King Lee Heon (Yeo Jin Goo) who is trying to escape from those who are trying to take his life. The king then decides to bring his doppelgänger, the clown Ha Seon (Yeo Jin Goo), into the palace.
In comparison to the relatively short “Masquerade,” “The Crowned Clown” promises to bring more depth to the plot and romance of the original story. “The Crowned Clown” will begin airing on January 7 at 9:30 p.m. KST on tvN and will be available on Dramacool!
