Dec 24, 2018

On the latest episode of JTBC’s “Cool Kids,” Red Velvet’s Seulgi gave an analysis of SM Entertainment’s distinctive style of singing.
During the December 23 broadcast of the new variety show, the cast members talked about a famous YouTube star who had imitated the different vocal styles typically used by artists from SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment.
Comedienne Kim Shin Young then turned to Seulgi to ask for her opinion, pointing out, “Seulgi, you’re from SM.”
Seulgi replied, “[The video] was completely accurate.” She went on to explain the specific vocal style preferred by SM Entertainment, remarking, “Our vocals need to be clean, without any pitch bending. They have to be clean, clear, and crisp.”
When Yoo Jae Suk asked her to explain further, Seulgi used Red Velvet’s hit song “Red Flavor” to demonstrate the difference between SM Entertainment’s singing style and a vocal style that makes use of pitch bending.
