Prosecutors want a two-year jail term for the man who allegedly installed a spy camera in a room that actress Shin Sae-kyeong and K-pop singer Yoon Bo-mi shared in September in France.
During Monday's hearing at the Seoul Southern District Court, prosecutors requested the sentence for the man for allegedly violating the special act concerning the punishment of sexual crime. They also demanded the court disclose his personal information and restrict his employment.
"Spy cams have been a serious social problem and the victims must have felt much fear as celebrities," prosecutors said.
The man, 30, surnamed Kim, was a worker from an outsourced company who joined the OLIVE TV show "Pocha Beyond Borders" as a crew member. The program, starring Shin and Yoon, featured Korean celebrities visiting France to present Korean street dishes.
Kim allegedly disguised the camera as a portable battery charger and secretly placed it in the pair's room, but Shin saw it about an hour later.
"We checked out the content captured on the camera and found nothing controversial," a spokesperson for the show wrote in an official statement released in September.
Kim voluntarily went to police after returning to Korea. He claimed he committed the wrongdoing out of curiosity.
