The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (2023) Episode 6

Dec 11, 2023

Episode 6 of The Story of Park’s Marriage begins one hour before the executive meeting. Tae-ha prepares for his meeting, while Yeon-woo speaks to Mi-dam. She shows off her dress that she’s crafted herself and realizes just how talented the girl is. Her smile is reminiscent of her mother’s, with the same scrunched up look.

Yeon-woo explains that she learned how to do this from her mother, and seeing how talented Yeon-woo is, Mi-dam wants to work with her. That’s part of the deal for accepting the partnership between the pair. And it’s settled, a collaboration with Midam. After the meeting Tae-ha starts to suffer with heart problems and he struggles to get his breathing under control. When he notices Hye-suk show up, he pings a message over to Hong asking for emergency medical help.

When Tae-ha calms down, he learns that there’s more going on here. In fact, Mi-dam is curious about Yeon-woo’s past too. Tae-ha wanrts Yeon-woo to work with Mi-dam, and eventually she agrees and gets dressed up ready for her first day. Tae-ha is blinded by her beauty and can’t stop staring. In fact, Yeon-woo decides they need to be separate so she chooses to get a taxi into work.

Yeon-woo is introduced to the whole team and in her nervous state, she’s full of energy and bows before the team. Myung-Soo believes that he and Hye-suk should probably stop attacking the Chairman for now. Especially with a big event coming up.

Tae-min continues to try and flirt with Yeon-woo, and naturally it makes Tae-ha jealous as he watches from afar. She even innocently agrees to give her number to one of the employees too. Tae-ha watches and is dumbfounded but he decides that they should all go for an employee dinner to tide things over. The Deputy CEO does his best to try and keep things civil and keep Yeon-woo in check, but she agrees to drink with the others. Naturally, Tae-ha gets really jealous as the team tease how good Yeon-woo and Manager Do look together.

In fact, Yeon-woo even mentions that when she drinks, there’s something she’s really good at. And Tae-ha thinks it’s all about kissing. When Yeon-woo leans in close, Tae-ha has had enough and suddenly shouts, telling them that it’s over. He even spies on Yeon-woo when she gets a lift home from Manager Do.

When they talk inside, Tae-ha opens up about the kiss but Yeon-woo admits that the special talent when drunk is actually headbutting. Tae-ha is relieved but Yeon-woo is mortified over what’s transpired.

Meanwhile, Hong deciphers his homework from Sa-wol, realizing that she’s talking about a steamy night with Tae-ha. When he confronts her about it, she admits that she’s not interested in Tae-ha with his skinny body, and besides, attraction is 80% about the body. Hong decides that he’s in with a chance and his face lights up as the pair trade banter. In fact, she decides that if Hong can drink an entire glass of lemonade without stopping, then she’ll solve his riddle. And poor Hong, he’s interrupted midway by Hae-ryeong, who suddenly shows up and distracts him.

At work, Yeon-woo struggles with instructions around PDF files, but her real talent sits with practical experience and making clothes by giving people what they want. Tae-min helps her out and broaches the idea of them having a date together as thanks. And Yeon-woo accepts! However, Hye-suk confronts her in the hallway and threatens Yeon-woo. She more than holds her own, but Tae-min gets involved too, waring her off from getting involved and causing more of a ruckus than she should.

The Chairman speaks to Tae-ha in confidence and tells him to keep his wits about him. He can’t show any weakness because if he does, then Hye-suk is going to use that to her advantage. And here, we see a bit more of the past. Tae-ha watched as one of his loved ones died in her bed, the heartrate monitor flatlining. The Chairman raced in to hold him, as Tae-ha ended up mortified by this moment. This explains why some of his past is so tenuous… but what role does Hye-suk have to play in all this?

Well, some of this stems from her partner way back in the day. He would paint his “deceased” constantly without stopping like a madman. Hye-suk slowly went mad with anger and jealousy, especially as the painting looks eerily like Yeon-woo. The painting is also marked with the initials JH.

The big meeting goes ahead as scheduled in the present, and while Yeon-woo waits nervously in the office, the Chairman stands up and decides that they need to throw away the old and move forward and enter the future into a new age. He believes this is what the executives of SH want too. He steps aside, and lets Tae-ha take to the stage again. Here, he introduces Mi-dam and Manager Do. Oh, and also Yeon-woo too. However, he introduces her as his wife and designer.

After, the whole place is in uproar. The Chairman is not happy and leaves. Hye-suk believes she should encourage this feeling to worm her way between them, whole Yeon-woo is not happy he didn’t consult her about any of this. However, when she leaves she learns some crucial clues about the past. It turns out that her husband was definitely poisoned.

Just as she discovers this, time freezes once more and Yeon-woo finds the Guardian Angel walking before her. Cheonmyeong. Apparently Yeon-woo needs to find the answers as to why she’s here if she’s ever to return home. That secret seems to be linked to her knot tying, and she’s told to “bring an end to the repeated intertwining connection”. If she does, she’ll see the answers she’s seeking.

More secrets from the past are revealed though, when Yeon-woo finds the same masks hanging up on the wall that the person who kidnapped her wore in the Joseon period. Behind that happens to be a secret passageway, leading to a door. Inside happens to be that exact same room where Tae-ha experienced the worst night of his life; the flashbacks from earlier involving his family.

Tae-ha gives chase and finds her, but when he does, he begins breathing heavily. She checks his chest and notices that it seems to be blackened. Is this what the Angel meant before about intertwining fates?

The Episode Review

So we finally learn a bit more about the past and it would seem that Yeon-wo’s kidnappers could well be linked to Tae-ha’s family. Perhaps it was a descendant of Hye-suk or even Myung-soo from SH. Either way, this deep-rooted family issue is going far deeper than we thought before.

There’s a lot of drama involving SH Seoul too and the power struggle over at the fashion company is certainly something that could get really ugly before all is said and done. Seeing more of He-suk’s motivation is definitely welcome but we’re still somewhat in the dark over how Yeon-woo slots into all of this, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way though, this was another good episode, leaving everything wide open for the future.
