On April 3, Seoul Takju stated, “Although [Seoul Takju] is not Roy Kim’s company, it is perplexing and unfortunate that there is a misunderstanding.”
Roy Kim was recently revealed to be one of the previously unidentified celebrities in a group chatroom where Jung Joon Young shared illegal videos. Furthermore, it was reported that he will be called in for a witness interview.
Following the news, interest in Seoul Takju began to rise, and Seoul Takju’s representative brand Jangsoo Makgeolli also topped the list of real-time search terms on portal sites. Roy Kim’s father Kim Hong Taek previously stepped down from his position as Seoul Takju’s president in 2014, and netizens began to call for a boycott of the company after confirming that Kim Hong Taek had transferred the entirety of his shares to Roy Kim.
Seoul Takju further explained, “Seoul Takju is a cooperative association established by 51 breweries, and Roy Kim is one of the 51 people. He doesn’t hold a special position. He is just one of the shareholders. It is concerning that Seoul Takju’s business has been affected after being displayed on broadcasts as if it were Roy Kim and former president Kim Hong Taek’s company.”
