Recap Korean Drama "Once Upon a Small Town" Episode 7

Sep 27, 2022

Once Upon a Small Town episode 7 starts with Ji-yul and Ja-young meeting face to face beside the river that they once used to play at. Armed with new information about their relationship, things have changed for Ji-yul and now he doesn’t know how to approach Ja-young.

Ja-young, too, has lots to think about, and as her boss mentions – it’s clear that something’s bothering her what can it be?

However, all of that can wait – a little rabbit is very sick, and its little owner is also very sad that she’s going to die. But, Ji-yul has hope that something can definitely be done with it. After all, a little bit of love and care and some fluids through an IV can make almost anything better.

One more problem arises when he realises that there’s tension between the little Hui-won and Seon-dong over a girl that she had given. The situation sort of mirrors his own, and listening to him say something so mature in spite of his young age gives Ji-yul an idea about what to do with his own relationship.

Unfortunately, his advice is to give Hui-won some time, which he too seems to be following for himself. That doesn’t go over well, and when Ja-young finds Seon-dong later, the latter tells her with a sad face that Hui-won won’t even acknowledge his presence anymore. Ja-young tells the young boy to just apologise for his wrongdoings and be honest with his apologies. Seon-dong promises to try that out as well.

Unfortunately, that, too, doesn’t work out, and Seon-dong comes back crying to Ji-yul and Ji-yul, now annoyed with Ja-young’s suggestion, tells him that he should just wait and see how Hui-won reacts and simply give her space. Seon-dong agrees to do what he says, considering Ja-young never really had a boyfriend.

Later that day, Ji-yul comes across Ja-young on a visit to someone’s home. She thanks him for helping her during the accident, and it’s definitely a tense and awkward situation. Both have taken the children’s plight quite personally, but just as Ji-yul is about to broach the topic, Sang-hyeon comes in and doesn’t even acknowledge his presence, effectively ending that discussion.

Sang-hyeon later asks Ja-young about her relationship with Ji-yul and she mentions that he finally remembers her. However, she doesn’t want to make a fuss anymore because Ji-yul will be leaving soon anyway. Either way, Sang-hyeon goes off the Seoul but not before telling Ja-young to be good.

Ji-yul, meanwhile, talks to his friend about his little predicament and is left a bit confused about what he hears from him. However, that conversation also goes in vain when Yun-hyeong starts asking him whether Ja-young has become prettier and whether he sees her in a different light now that he remembers.

Sadly, though, it seems like Ji-yul’s advice has been taken a bit too seriously by Seon-dong, who texted something cryptic to Hui-won and is apparently nowhere to be found. He rushes to the police station to quickly find the boy. As the news gets broadcast, Ja-young and Ji-yul walk down the alleys to find out where Seon-dong went, and Ja-young is furious with her childhood friend for giving a child silly advice.

The two of them have a rather interesting conversation about apologising and being in relationships. Both say their points of view, which both makes sense in a way, but in the end, Ji-yul asks him whether the apology should’ve been more sincere, and both of them acknowledge that they were both correct in a capacity.

Ji-yul and Ja-young share a cute moment together wherein she mentions that she was concerned about him as well but in the veil of being tensed for the missing child. Either way, when they find Seon-dong, he’s sitting alone at the bus stop, and one mention of Hui-won being over their fight puts a smile on his face.

Once Upon a Small Town Episode 7 Ending

On the way home, Ja-young and Ji-yul continue to look at each other using the rear-view mirror as they think back to his confession that day beside the river. Honestly, Ja-young does a great job tackling the awkwardness while, in classic Ji-yul style, he becomes shy and quiet. However, it becomes a rather interesting memory for Ji-yul, who laughs as Ja-young drops Seon-dong at home.

Once outside, Ji-yul confesses that she was the only good memory from that year and sincerely apologises for not remembering her. The arm holding is probably not helping, as it seems like Ja-young is out of words for the first time.

Once Upon a Small Town Episode 7 Review

Another easy-breezy episode proves the series to be a sweet and simple watch. I think it was great watching Seon-dong and Hui-won’s problems translate to the adults’ issues. It’s interesting how the solution was in the middle of both of their points of view.

However, I am here wondering whether Hui-won’s rabbit got better or not.

Either way, Seong-hyeon not being there in the episode today proved rather nice and conflict-free, and the leads got some time to figure out their problems on their own. It’s great watching Ja-young make her own decisions without feeling the pressure from Seong-hyeon to act a certain way. If I am being honest, they really did his character dirty – he almost feels rather mean and just a smidge controlling.

Anyway, as I previously mentioned, it’s an easy episode that looks great and is funny in its own way.
