Cafe Minamdang episode 6 starts with a flashback of Jae-hui finding a horrific crime scene filled with grisly murders and dripping blood – she has found Choi Yeong-seop passed out with his daughter’s rapist’s dead body beside him, charred to bits.

However, Han-jun and Jae-jeong find something suspicious in the whole thing – why did Yeong-seop not run away and try to kill himself with an insufficient dose of drugs? Han-jun determines that Yeong-seop didn’t commit the murder and is the reason why he is admitting to something that he didn’t do.

As the two of them investigate the crime scene together and discuss the various gaps in logic if they take Yeong-seop as the perpetrator, Gopuri keeps an eye on them from the shadows. As they realise this fact, they split up and start to follow him through narrow lanes. However, their attempt isn’t successful, but they do get to know from a witness that there was someone else at the scene of the crime that day, sort of exonerating Yeong-seop from the murder.

As the investigation goes on in Cafe Minamdang episode 6, Jae-jeong successfully finds the link that he has been looking for that connects the victim, Choi Yeong-seop and this mystery third person. But obviously, as is normal for tv show logic, he asks Han-jun to meet him at his place if he wants to know.

Meanwhile, Jae-hui follows Yeong-seop to the warehouse again, where he tells her that it is because of them and their meddling that Jae-jeong is going to die, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. He boinks Jae-hui over the head, rendering her unconscious, and when she comes to, she is frustrated to find herself in this situation.

She calls her brother and tells him about Choi Yeong-seop and what he said about Jae-jeong’s death. Just then, at Jae-jeong’s home, Gopuri attacks him and renders him immobile. Choking him to death, poor Jae-jeong can honestly do nothing as the life leaves his eyes. Meanwhile, Han-jun gets to Jae-jeong’s place and right as he stands outside, inside the flat Gopuri lights a very much alive but incapacitated Jae-jeong on fire.

Han-jun and Su-cheol try to open the door, and after a bit of struggle, Han-jun rushes inside to find Gopuri. A scuffle ensues after which Gopuri is able to escape, closely followed by Su-cheol. But to Han-jun’s heartbreak, Jae-jeong is now badly burnt and very dead. He laments the loss of his friend and his inability to save him and breaks down as the red and blue lights flash underneath the building.

Jae-hui, meanwhile, gets there too late and can only look at her brother’s burnt body with disbelief and rage. She suspects Choi Yeong-seop, whose ID was found at the crime scene, but Han-jun knows the truth and realises that it’s what Jae-jeong found out that got him killed. That night, they both promise to catch this killer, no matter what.

Back from the extended flashback, Jae-hui and Han-jun get into an annoying fight which Do-won has to break up. Later on, her annoyance gets the best of her, and she insults Du-jin and calls him incompetent, resulting in him leaving and asking her to solve the case on her own. Either way, Han-jun’s words have left a mark on Jae-hui, who iterates that she needs to be sure that Yeong-seop’s alibi checks out.

In order to come up with the perfect plan, they plant Su-cheol as Yeong-seop at the hospital to catch Gopuri red-handed. Unfortunately, he gets into Il-seop’s bed and gets a very tragic colonoscopy. Meanwhile, Han-jun takes his place and also gets slapped with barbiturates as well.

As he’s passed out, Jae-hui finds Yeong-seop with Su-cheol and Hye-jun and goes to rain terror on Han-jun, who is still high on sedatives. A drugged-up Han-jun is overcome with love at the sight of Jae-hui and immediately kisses her as she barges into the room. Shocked and taken aback, she slaps and gets him off her.

Han-jun is just adorable in the next scene, as he sheepishly asks Jae-hui whether she checked all the evidence and Yeong-seop’s alibi. After acting like a total bratty kid, however, he switches to sultry and sexy Han-jun and seductively tells Jae-hui that they both have to work individually to solve this case. Outside the room, it is apparent that Han-jun’s charms have worked on Jae-hui, even though she doesn’t want to accept it.

The next day, as Han-jun remembers what he did with Jae-hui, she and Do-won interrogate Choi Yeong-seop, who continues to stick to the story that he was the one who killed Jae-jeong. Jae-hui and Do-won insist on him telling them the truth so that they can nab the real killer but before that conversation can end, Gopuri comes in and administers an antibiotic that results in Yeong-seop’s health to immediately start to deteriorate

Both Han-jun and Jae-hui catch on to the fact and give him chase, and eventually split up to find him. Han-jun is the one who finally catches up to him, but Gopuri catches him in a chokehold that he is unable to get out of.

In the epilogue, outside the funeral place, Do-won saves Han-jun from being beaten up by the bereaved family after being blamed for Jae-jeong’s death. Han-jun shares the burn scar on the real killer’s arm and that Yeong-seop cannot be the killer, all the while Gopuri keeps a close eye on them.

Cafe Minamdang’s comedy and mystery-thriller genres go together so well that it’s hard to look away from the sheer insanity on-screen. For example – that kiss just came out of left field and is just so hilarious and cringy to watch. Jae-hui’s face is all of us right now.

Speaking of Jae-hui, I wonder how a detective can be this rigid in their outlook toward the cases that she works with. It’s like she simply cannot be objective about this case and must go the extra mile to prove her hunches wrong, even if it means that the real killer will get away. She’s annoying, but I see her getting better in the future episodes.

Or maybe, just maybe, she seems so annoying because she is working opposite Han-jun, who is simply a dangerous ball of energy and cuteness but can catch a killer if necessary. In spite of his amazing analytical power, Han-jun’s carefree attitude and objective thinking is what makes watching this funny and entertaining, especially because he’s also good at what he does.

Cafe Minamdang is an entertaining watch, and episode 6 is no exception. The central mystery is delicious and with so many cogs and such a mysterious killer on the loose, I hope they end this in a satisfying manner!
