Sep 14, 2022

Adamas episode 14 starts with Su-hyeon and Seo-hee following Woo-sin’s GPS location while the latter tries to convince Chang-woo to divulge where the Adamas is. However, his convincing comes to an end when a Team A guy comes in to rile Chang-woo up by torturing Woo-sin. As he starts to break Woo-sin’s hand, Su-hyeon rushes to find his brother, and Chang-woo implores the police officer to stop.

However, he doesn’t and keeps asking about the location of the Adamas. In between all the torture, however, the guy successfully destroys the chip in Woo-sin’s arm and Su-hyeon and the team have to run blindly through a row of shipping containers to find Woo-sin and Chang-woo.

Inside the container, Woo-sin has passed out while Chang-woo looks heartbroken at his son’s condition… until he frees himself from the handcuffs by breaking his thumb. The Team A guy looks absolutely terrified at the development, and Chang-woo looks like he will murder him.

Just as Su-hyeon and Seo-hee find Woo-sin, Chang-woo comes out of the shipping container with his son. Chang-woo murdered the other guy, but truthfully, he was going to stop until the guy tried to stab him. Meanwhile, at headquarters, Hyuk-pil is shocked to learn that Tae-sung shot the chairman, although he isn’t dead.

At the hospital, Hyun-jo asks Dr Eun to keep the chairman breathing until his succession is assured, and when Hye-soo gets there and wonders how he survived, the two get into a spat wherein both of them threaten each other to be careful. Because once the chairman dies, things aren’t going to look well for anyone. Hye-soo, interestingly, looks fearless, as if she has something up her sleeves.

Meanwhile, interestingly still, Ms Yoon seems to be calling the shots behind Hyun-jo and asks him to take control of Team A before all else. At Team A headquarters, Jun-kyung gets dressed as he again takes over Team A and goes to meet Hyun-jo. Things seem to have changed for him as Chief Jeong isn’t listening to him like before.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Tae-sung goes in to finish the job that he started. However, Hyuk-pil stops him by giving him a new ID to leave the country. He reminds Tae-sung that he can’t just murder Jae-kyu and get away with it however, the former says that he knew the risks before he pulled the trigger.

Tae-sung’s impassioned speech about why they are the ones always at the losing end of the stick gives him guilt when Hyuk-pil tells him the officer who died dug too deep into Chang-woo on Tae-sung’s orders. Hyuk-pil implores him to stop because he doesn’t want him to die as well. However, Tae-sung is adamant; he is doing this for everyone who lost their life. Otherwise, all of this would be in vain.

Just before leaving, Hyuk-pil asks Tae-sung to wrap things up in headquarters with the remaining four trustworthy guys.

Meanwhile, Seo-hee asks Chang-woo who he is. He reminds her that he did tell her not to pursue this any more than necessary. However, she doesn’t let the question go – she has the right to know. The truth, however, makes her rush to Su-hyeon and ask him why he didn’t tell her that Chang-woo is a former member of Team A. Su-hyeon, a bit taken aback, tries to tell her that she has never been wrong and that all of this was for his adoptive father.

Chang-woo overhears this conversation and agrees with Su-hyeon and promises to go back to prison after the truth comes to light. When Tae-sung joins the team soon after, they start to come up with a plan to take down Team A and Haesong once and for all. They discuss what to do – whether they should cross the line and murder everyone or simply follow the law.

Su-hyeon is of the opinion that they need to cross the line this time but Woo-sin gets there just in time to tell everyone that he planned everything with Hye-soo to save Jun-kyung so that the last remaining link to their father’s death doesn’t disappear. A furious Su-hyeon is taken outside by Tae-sung, while inside, Woo-sin points a gun at Chang-woo to know the Adamas’s location.

Chang-woo, however, doesn’t bat an eye and takes the gun from Woo-sin’s hand before shooting it right by Woo-sin’s head. It is here that the team realises that the two factions that have been created cannot work together. Thus, Seo-hee and Woo-sin decide to go out and find the Adamas, while Su-hyeon, Tae-sung and the remaining SIH members decide to handle Jun-kyung.

At Haesong, Hye-soo has completely started to take things over, and she strikes a deal with Team A – she will keep them around if they get rid of the SIH once and for all. She’s ok with Jun-kyung exacting revenge on anyone he pleases, but in return, she wants to know who murdered Min-jo and Sun’s name doesn’t even come as a shock to her. Meanwhile, Hyun-jo strikes an unfortunate deal with Sun.

After everyone gets rid of their bloodied clothes and wears something comfy to settle in for the night, Woo-sin listens to the recording that Su-hyeon had sent him while the SIH team and Su-hyeon figure out a code that Chul-min had left in the report that he submitted about Chang-woo. Meanwhile, Woo-sin figures out what Chang-woo did with the Adamas the night his father was murdered.

As the SIH team go to the coordinates that Chul-min had mentioned, Woo-sin goes out to see whether his doubts are correct, and Seo-hee decides to give an important tip about Chairman Kwon.

At the location, the team goes inside, guns drawn, to find out whether it’s Team A’s secret hideout. After a tense few minutes of searching, they go down several flights of stairs deep underneath the building into a dark corridor. Meanwhile, Hye-soo brings Ms Kwon to the Chairman in a very odd twist. Ms Kwon proceeds to stab the very heart that he stole from her son.

Adamas episode 14 has so many important moments that it’s difficult to pinpoint one. First and foremost, is the deal struck between Woo-sin and Hye-soo forgotten by the latter now that she has everything working out for her? And more importantly, will she be able to have it all regardless of whether she’s the bad guy or not? It’d be great to have her achieve something interesting instead of being the abused and neglected wife of the rather unpleasant son.

Hye-soo’s character is so interesting, and I love how she has been playing everything from the background since day 1. She has everything planned and organised, just waiting for people to make the right moves and then she will take over from there. Seo Ji-hye is excellent as the character and makes me scared of her.

Meanwhile, Woo-sin and Su-hyeon, brothers who are so different yet the same, are excellent as they are able to figure out things and push the story forward. The moment when Su-hyeon discovers the bodies in the basement or when Woo-sin puts two and two together to figure out the action figure’s significance were excellent moments that really took me by surprise. It’s expected, yet it isn’t.

Seo-hee is probably the tamest of the lot but watching Tae-sung out on a revenge path makes up for that disappointment. Man, he’s someone to look up to, although he didn’t think twice before pushing Jun-kyung into the water. I mean, Leader Lee deserved it, but come on.

The most interesting thing, personally, in spite of being the smallest of the revelations in the episode, is that of Sun and Ms Yoon. Who would’ve thought that the mute secretary would have poisoned her young sisters but then backed out of killing herself? It’s really a significant moment that says so much about the sisters, even though story-wise, it doesn’t make much of an impact.

All in all, I think Adamas is going excellently, and if they can land the ending, this would be one of my favourite shows at the moment.
