Pyramid Game (2024) K Drama 2024 Episode 7

Mar 26, 2024

Episode 7 of Pyramid Game starts with Soo-ji contemplating deleting the audio recordings. We then move on to the students of Class 5 going out on a field trip. The air is tense with Soo-ji thinking about Ha-rin’s threat of ruining her father’s career as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Meanwhile, Ye-rim thinks about what happened between Eun-jeong and Ha-rin in class the other day. The girls visit the aquarium and some of the students discuss what it would be like to text Soo-ji about joining her group to destroy the pyramid game. On the other hand, Eun-byeol has replaced Woo-yi in the core group and the latter feels left out.

Ji-ae also feels left out as Soo-ji, Ja-eun, Jae-hyeong and Ye-rim hang out together. At the beach, Soo-ji keeps getting texts from her classmates about her plan to destroy the game. Ye-rim wonders why the recordings haven’t gone live yet but Soo-ji lies, stating she had delayed its release. Soo-ji thinks to herself how it would have been better off for her to just have transferred with her father.

Ha-rin plans to strip Soo-ji away from all her friends and starts manipulating Ye-rim and Jae-hyeong’s personal lives for the same. She asks Eun-jeong to help her surf on the day of her swimming qualifiers. Ye-rim shows up to stop Eun-jeong. Knowing all about Eun-jeong’s feelings for Ye-rim, Ha-rin threatens to stop Ye-rim from debuting if Eun-jeong does not skip her swimming qualifiers.

Eun-jeong concedes which makes Ye-rim further upset. Next, Ha-rin threatens to leak information about Jae-hyeong being a pervert. She threatens to ruin Jae-hyeong’s brother’s interview with a law firm using the Baek family’s connections which scares Jae-hyeong away. The girls from the class are snorkelling when Ha-rin steps close to the deep pool.

Despite knowing that Ha-rin cannot swim and the pool is extremely deep, Woo-yi pushes her into the water. Ja-eun notices Ha-rin drowning and jumps into the pool despite not knowing how to swim. Eun-jeong, who is a swimmer, jumps in and saves Ha-rin while the coach saves Ja-eun.

Ha-rin lies to the coach and states that she  slipped off the edge but Do-ah calls Woo-yi out for pushing Ha-rin. Woo-yi accuses Do-ah of being a spectator while Ha-rin is drowning and calls her out. Mr Lim makes a big fuss out of the accident and asks to take Ha-rin to the hospital. Ha-rin steps on the teacher’s foot and asks him to calm down.

The girls from class notice how Ha-rin seems to have lost her mind with the way she has been reacting lately. Outside, Mr Lim asks the students to divide themselves into 5 groups of 5 students each to share rooms for the night. Meanwhile, Ha-rin, Da-yeon and Do-ah’s fathers are having a meal together. Dr Seo tells Mr Baek how the game their daughters were playing in class had seeped into the real world as it had led to another colonel being transferred to their area. At the resort, Ha-rin, Do-ah, Da-yeon and Eun-byeol group up.

Ha-rin calls Eun-jeong to join them to complete their group of five students. This leaves Ye-rim confused but she does not react. She joins Soo-ji, Ja-eun and Jae-hyeong while they wait for a fifth student to join their group. Woo-yi, Ji-ae and Yu-rim are the only three students left behind. Ji-ae is called to join a different group while Woo-yi joins the same group as Sae-byeol.

Yu-rim is forced to join Ja-eun’s group and bunk together with them. In their room, Jae-hyeong calls Yu-rim out for backstabbing Ja-eun in the past which turned her into a Rank F student. Yu-rim tells Jae-hyeong that she was a victim too and did not betray her out of her own will but was forced to do it. Soo-ji and Ja-eun overhear the conversation from the hallway.

The five groups spend the evening making fire lanterns and set them free in the night sky. After that, Ha-rin and Eun-byeol are standing together by the ocean when the latter tries to butter up Ha-rin. She thinks to herself how she needed to be in Ha-rin’s good books until the end of the year. Ha-rin texts Ye-rim and Jae-hyeong, threatening to expose their secrets in exchange for their loyalty in the future.

Meanwhile, Soo-ji asks why Ja-eun was being so kind to Yu-rim when she had betrayed her in the past. Ja-eun states that Yu-rim was just like any other student to her and she was treating her like she would treat a stranger. Ja-eun, Ye-rim and Jae-hyeong bring a cake to celebrate Soo-ji’s birthday and the rest of the girls notice how close the four students are.

Woo-ri watches Ye-rim’s post on Instagram with her three new friends and feels left out. Seung-hwa texts Woo-ti anonymously and promises to help her leave her room soon. Woo-ri thinks about how she was bullied in school and how Ha-rin’s friends took advantage of her which causes her to panic. Seung-hwa recalls how Soo-ji had the same expression of fear as his sister once had and gets worried.

That night, Ye-won thanks Soo-ji for helping her out by changing the rules of the dodgeball game. She goes to her room and the group orders takes out food and watches horror movies together. Two other students join their group and thank Soo-ji for her courage. Eun-byeol tries to rile Da-yeon up. She states that graduation would not be the end of the pyramid game for her because Ha-rin is synonymous with the Pyramid Game.

Eun-byeol claims that as long as Ha-rin exists in their lives, the game will also exist. That night, Woo-yi follows after Ha-rin and asks her why she didn’t do anything about the fact that she had pushed her into the pool. Ha-rin asks Woo-yi to stop worrying about being turned into a Rank F student. She states that she was more angered by something else, implying the fact that her so-called friends hadn’t tried to save her from drowning.

Ja-eun gets a call from her mother who has shown up at the lobby to meet her upon Ha-rin’s request. Ja-eun’s mother calls Ha-rin “So-woon” and thanks her for inviting her over so she could meet her daughter. On the other hand, Mr Baek tries to convince his mother to let him send Ha-rin over to a boarding school in the United States. Cho-soon shuts her son down on the idea.

After Ja-eun’s mother leaves, Ha-rin threatens Ja-eun about exposing her truth to her mother as well as the rest of the class. Soo-ji goes out looking for Ja-eun and ends up finding her on her way back to the room. The episode cuts off to the next activity on the trip where each of the four teams is divided up for a game of paintball.

Eun-byeol announces that the person with the most number of paint shots on their vest will be grouped for a final face-off and adds that they would determine the Rank F student from among the final group. Woo-yi ends up attacking Soo-ji and the girls end up in a fistfight. Woo-yi accuses Soo-ji of ruining her life by transferring to the school.

Ye-rim asks Eun-jeong to prioritise her swimming career. When Eun-jeong notices Ye-rim being attacked, she shields her and takes the paint shots on herself. On the other hand, Ha-rin corners Ja-eun and guilts her about how she had betrayed her in the past, shooting Ja-eun with all the paint bullets.

Eventually, Soo-ji, Ja-eun, Jae-hyeong, Eun-jeong and Ji-ae are determined to be the students with the most paint shots on their bodies. Eun-byeol asks the five girls to shoot each other with bullets while saying one bad quality in the person they were shooting. She states that the exercise was to continue until everyone ran out of bullets. The situation is similar to the philosophical concept of a prisoner’s dilemma.

Jae-hyeong and Soo-ji get a message from Ha-rin and she asks them both to betray their friends. With nothing negative to say about the other people in the circle, Ji-ae points the gun at herself and calls herself out for being a bad friend. A flashback from the night before shows Soo-ji, Ja-eun, Jae-hyeong and Ye-rim meeting outside and telling the truth about Ha-rin trying to blackmail them.

Jae-hyeong tells her friends that she did not care about her brother losing his career as he had abused her when she was 8 to the point of her needing to get eye surgery. Ye-rim claims that Eun-jeong was no longer a friend to her as she didn’t prioritise her career. She calls Eun-jeong to tell her the same. Ja-eun apologises to Soo-ji for what was happening to her dad.

The girls stop Ja-eun from trying to take the blame for Ha-rin’s actions. A flashback shows Soo-ji taking back her attempt to delete the voice recordings. Back to the paintball game, Soo-ji, Ja-eun and Jae-hyeong all turn their respective paintguns upon themselves as the episode comes to an end.

The Episode Review

As complicated as the dynamics between the characters of this show get and as illogical as some of the things characters in this one do seem, the show is interesting. The first four episodes of Pyramid Game were well made but it looks like the show is slacking off now. Bona (playing Soo-ji) is really good at what she is doing, but the story seems a little too convoluted for 15 and 16 year girls.

The storytelling feels pretty laborious in the first half of this episode with the father catching on to Ha-rin’s attempts at taking the game out of the school and into the real world. However, there is little to no effort being made by the parents to stop her. Cho-soon may be one powerful woman but she too is crazy to let her favourite grandchild play with human beings as if they were toys in her fabricated world.

The ending is particularly engaging though and I am loving how Ha-rin is shocked to see how Soo-ji and her friends are not like the other girls who dance and jump at her instructions like circus monkeys. The best part of this episode was the climax and the fact that Ji-ae finally is back with her friends. I hope there are no more betrayals in the core 5 and they trust Soo-ji to bring down Psycho Ha-rin.
