Adapted from a web novel of the same name, SBS’s “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” (previously known as “The Love Story of Flower Scholars”) is a mysterious romance drama that tells the story of four youths including Yoon Dan Oh, the owner of the guesthouse Yihwawon which is free from stereotypes, and three boarding students – known as the flower scholars – who hold secrets.

Shin Ye Eun stars as Yihwawon’s owner Yoon Dan Oh while the three flower scholars are portrayed by Ryeo Woon, Kang Hoon, and Jung Gun Joo.

After starring in MBC’s hit historical drama “The Red Sleeve” in 2021, Kang Hoon is finally gearing up for a new historical role! In “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse,” Kang Hoon will play Kim Si Yeol, an energetic liberal arts student. Although he lives a leisurely life as a loafer, Kim Si Yeol is also a courageous person who always stands up against injustice.

Kang Hoon’s first character stills depict Kim Si Yeol’s goofy charms as he smiles happily despite having disheveled hair, dirty robes, and multiple bruises on his face.

As someone who enjoys playing over studying, Kim Si Yeol constantly runs into all sorts of trouble, but is typically able to get away with things by flashing his charming smile. In this role, Kang Hoon will show off two completely opposite personalities, from Kim Si Yeol’s goofy side to his serious and righteous one.

Thinking back to his first impression of the drama, Kang Hoon shared, “For starters, the script was fun and all of the drama’s characters were overflowing with personality. Also, I thought the character of Kim Si Yeol was incredibly charming. The image that made me think ‘I want to showcase this kind of image’ while acting is the one captured in Kim Si Yeol’s character.”

Elaborating on his role, Kang Hoon commented, “I think he’s someone who most enjoys playing. Although he’s a student, he has zero interest in studying and is only focused on fun things.” The actor added, “I believe all the happenings that occur at Yihwawon will be fun and interesting. As much sincerity as all the actors and staff poured out, I’m confident that a good project will have come out.”

The drama’s producers shared, “While perfectly immersing into Kim Si Yeol, a character who evokes laughter in ‘The Secret Romantic Guesthouse,’ Kang Hoon is adding vibrancy to the drama. Through the live broadcasts of ‘The Secret Romantic Guesthouse,’ we ask that you make sure to check out Kang Hoon’s sincere acting, which will evolve with each episode.”

SBS’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” starts airing on March 20 and will be available with subtitles on Dramacool.
