Ji Chang Wook Will Do Whatever It Takes To Protect His Loved Ones In Heartwarming New Drama

Nov 7, 2023

JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama “Welcome to Samdalri” (literal title) has shared new stills of Ji Chang Wook!

Helmed by “When the Camellia Blooms” director Cha Young Hoon, “Welcome to Samdalri” will star Ji Chang Wook as Jo Yong Pil, a man who has faithfully stayed in his hometown on Jeju Island all his life in order to protect its residents. Shin Hye Sun will play Jo Sam Dal, who grew up together with Jo Yong Pil as his close childhood friend. Unlike Jo Yong Pil, who was content to remain in his hometown Samdal, Jo Sam Dal made it her mission to get out of their small town and move to Seoul.

The newly released stills capture Ji Chang Wook’s transformation into Jo Yong Pil, a weather forecaster of Mado’s Meteorological Department. There is no one in Mado who knows the weather there as well as Jo Yong Pil, especially due to the personal experience he built over the years.

In the stills, Jo Yong Pil stares at the monitor with laser focus, highlighting his tenacity for forecasting accurate weather. Due to his nature, Jo Yong Pil is known as the dunce of the department who can’t be restrained—causing headquarters to hang up their video calls with him and prevent him from entering important meetings.

The reason why Yong Pil tries his best to predict accurate weather is to protect the people of Samdalri who are like family to him. This includes the haenyeos (female divers that harvest sea life for a living) led by Go Mi Ja (Kim Mi Kyung), whose livelihoods depend on the condition of the sea.

Yong Pil also has one more person he wants to protect, which is his longtime childhood friend Sam Dal, who he was born five minutes apart from. Although the two are not on contacting terms due to some incident that happened in the past, their relationship will continue once more when Sam Dal returns to her hometown.

Ji Chang Wook shared, “‘Welcome to Samdalri’ will be greeting [viewers] at the end of the year. This December, I hope you feel at least some warmth through Yong Pil. I hope you all also warmly ‘welcome’ me as I visit the small screen soon.”

“Welcome to Samdalri” will premiere on December 2 at 10:30 p.m. KST.
