First, he talked about joining Roc Nation, saying, “I’m very happy to be in Roc Nation, but it happened out of nowhere. I already belong to a company in Korea and I am also the president of it, and it was the first time Roc Nation signed a contract with an artist like me, so we went back and forth for about a year. It took us a long time to figure out what we could do for each other.”
Then he added, “In hip hop, Jay-Z looks almost like a god, and it’s an honor just to be able to see and work with good people. Sometimes we have parties at Roc Nation and I’m the only Asian there, so I’m sitting in the corner eating waffles without a friend. I think I’ll have to quickly succeed so that I can hang out with them.”
Jay Park is already a famous artist in Asia, but he’s considered a rookie in the United States. He explained, “There is a huge difference in activities. In Korea, I’ve been active for a long time and have established myself, and even in Asia, I’m being treated as a VIP at airports, but when I go to the States, I’m told to take a cab and they try to cut the guarantee for events.”
He continued, “K-pop is being treated well in the States, but there’s something more I need to show for hip hop. When I go on radio shows, the DJ suddenly scoffs and tries to make me do something. In Korea, I’m a judge on ‘Show Me the Money,’ but in the United States, I have to sing and rap when they tell me to.”
Jay Park also shared that he has many activities prepared in Korea this year. He revealed, “Last year, I featured in 32 songs, and I’ve already collaborated 15 times this year. I will hold a solo concert in Seoul in July and then go on a world tour. I worked on an album with Hit Boy, and I will be releasing an album of 18 songs after summer.”
“Chosen 1” will premiere on May 1 with four episodes that run approximately 20 minutes each.
