Doona! (2023) Episode 4 with Suzy

Oct 24, 2023

Doona episode 4 starts with Won-joon thinking about Doona sleeping on his lap. They spent the whole night cuddled on the sofa. As he showers, he can’t help but go back to that moment, wondering what it might mean. After showering, he starts studying but is still a bit distracted.

The following day, he goes to work at the amusement park and Doona visits. She is disappointed he is too busy even for a lunch break. She lies she is fine and tries to enjoy the rides alone. However, it is no fun.  Nonetheless, she decides to wait for Won-joon after he finishes his shift.

They head out for dinner, and she shares more about herself. She tells him about the time a concert got cancelled and allowed her some free time. However, she couldn’t figure out what to do. She then figured out it was because she knew nothing besides singing and dancing. Then she started wondering about her life if she quit being an idol. She didn’t know who she was at the time. She then adds that she is figuring it out.

Won-joon tells her about his family, his sick sister and ageing mom. He says he has always dreamed about a normal life.  They check out their fortune cookie, and Won-joon is shocked that he didn’t get a positive one. His fortune says he will meet an enemy, leaving him helpless. Thankfully, he says he is not one to make enemies, so he is not worried. He is also in a good mood, so Doona suggests they go on another date on a good day when the weather is great.

On the way home, she asks him not to overwork himself. He admits that he is taking it easy and has been struggling with his recent move. He felt guilty for leaving his ageing mom and sick sister behind but found some happiness after a while. He feels it is bad he no longer feels guilty. Doona assures him that is normal, and he says he has never told anyone before, making her laugh at how adorable he is.

On the bus ride, Doona opens her fortune, saying she should leave behind her past relationship and focus on a new one.

The following morning, Woon-joon tells Jin-joo about the fortune. She asks him to give it to her, promising to throw it away. They are distracted by a couple breaking up on the school grounds. Won-joon wonders if he recognizes the girl, Yi-ra, but dismisses his thoughts. Later, he gives Jin-joo the fortune in his pants, but she is surprised it says a different thing. Turns out Doona put her fortune in Won-joon’s pocket.

Elsewhere, Yi-ra is summoned by her friends to their dorm. Yi-ra is on the verge of being kicked out and has earned 13 penalty points so far.  However, she is more crushed about her break up, forcing her friends to bring her along to their group date.

News of Doona visiting the school to see Won-joon starts getting around. Unfortunately, someone took a photo of Doona and Won-joon when they went out for dinner. The internet is having a ball, trolling Doona. This annoys Won-joon, who hurries home to check on her.

He finds her baking, and she asks him not to take the issue seriously. She is used to being trolled, as everyone has opinions on her life. Won-joon asks her to take the matter more seriously.  He volunteers to stand by her if she wants to issue a statement or hold a press conference. She questions what he would say if she were to do a press release. Who would he say he is? They start joking about what they would say and wear at the press conference.

In the meantime, Jin-joo keeps thinking about the fortune cookie note. She goes online after dinner and sees the post about Doona. She immediately recognises Won-joon and starts to have a sinking feeling.

The following day, Won-joon does his laundry and finds his fortune. He gets superstitious and throws it away after a little ritual.

He then decides to study, but Doona interrupts him. She wants to go on a date since it is a good day. She starts looking through his closet, selecting a shirt for him. He advises her to pick up some of his clothes and put them around her house. He argues it will deter any stalkers from attacking her.

As they talk, Won-joon gets an urgent call from Yoon-taek. He asks Won-joon to get to the address he sent, saying it is a life and death matter. Upon arriving, Won-joon discovers he has been roped into a group date. He is paired with Yi-ra.

In a shocking yet funny twist of events, it turns out they know each other. They are childhood frenemies. They were born in the same hospital, only one minute apart. They lived in the same neighbourhood, and their parents joked about an arranged marriage between them. However, Yi-ra always teased and bullied Won-joon until she finally left for Brazil. Now she is back, and Won-joon tries to act like he doesn’t recognise her.

The plan goes awry when they play a game and are required to kiss. Yi-ra grabs Won-joon, ready to kiss him to see how long he can keep up his act. He folds and whispers in her ears that he remembers her. He then does his best to avoid the kiss, but Yi-ra is determined.

As the night deepens, Yoon-taek returns home and finds Doona waiting for Won-joon. He unknowingly tells Doona about Won-joon kissing Yi-ra and taking her home. Doona stays up, smoking while waiting for Won-joon.

It takes him a while since he has to deal with a drunk, heartbroken Yi-ra who insists on calling him her ex-fiance. He gets home and finds Doona outside. She burnt her finger while smoking. She also tells him that the lights in her room have a problem.

He escorts her to her room and starts treating her burn. She asks him about the blind date and notes he reeks of alcohol and women’s perfume. He explains he was with a girl. She says it is starting to hurt as he puts ice on her burn. He explains that sometimes wounds start to hurt only after we have noticed them. She then asks if that is why she is starting to feel something for him. She approaches him and kisses him.

We circle back to the night they shared a bus ride after dinner. She let him fall asleep on her shoulder and intentionally left her fortune cookie note in his pants.

The Episode Review

Doona has decided to show Won-joon her feelings, but will he reciprocate? On the other hand, we have Jin-joo, who is still being coy and hiding the fact she likes him. It is not Won-joon’s fault if his heart turns to Doona; at least she shows her emotions.

Yoon-taek needs to start being more observant; he nearly messed it up. Thankfully, his slip of the tongue only made Doona jealous and forced her to come clean about her feelings.

Lastly, Yi-ra is an excellent addition to the show. She is funny and relatable. I can’t wait to see more of her and how she will stir up trouble. Sometimes, we need a character like her to get this moving!
