Delightfully Deceitful (2023) Episode 13

Jul 12, 2023

Episode 13 of Delightfully Deceitful begins with a flashback of when Lee Ro-um was at the Jeokmok Foundation. Lee Ro-um sees Jay practising his shooting skills and goes to ask him if she could also give it a try. Jay gives Lee Ro-um his gun, and she starts practising her shooting skills. They then begin a conversation about who they would want to shoot.

Back to the present, Lee Ro-um and Da-jung are woken up by a recording of Lee Ro-um in the show she was on when she was young, being played on Da-jung’s computers. Da-jung tries to shut down that recording but she isn’t successful, so she decides to switch off her computers. They both notice that the recording wasn’t the official taping of the show but camcorder footage.

Just then, Young-ki calls Da-jung to inform her of Kang-soo’s death. News is out that Kang-soo is dead, and one of Jang Kyung-ja’s bodyguards who pushed him has confessed.

Later, Da-jung realizes that she had lost the evidence they got when they hacked into Navis Well-Being’s system, which they displayed when Kang-soo was doing the investment briefing in the last episode. This may have happened when the recording of Lee Ro-um, when she was on the show, started playing on Da-Jung’s computer. Da-jung then tells Lee Ro-um that they should go stay at Ring-go’s place now that “the president” most likely know where she lives.

Elsewhere, Ring-go visits Na-sa at the hospital. Remember, they managed to get Na-sa from Kang-soo’s office and took him to the hospital after Kang-soo beat him up in the previous episode. Ring-go asks Na-sa why he decided to work with Kang-Soo. Na-sa tells him that Kang-soo was powerful at the time, which is why he sided with him.

Na-sa then mentions Kang-soo ordering him to set up a surveillance camera in Jang Kyung-ja’s office. He also tells Ring-go about Jang Kyung-ja having a memory card with a copy of the An Chae-Hong’s notebook containing the identity of the President, hidden in a lighter.

Ring-go then tells Na-sa not to tell Lee Ro-um about the memory card. He also tells Na-sa that “the President” now knows where Da-jung lives.

The team later meets, and Da-jung tells everyone that the evidence they gathered when they hacked into Navis Well-Being is lost. However, Moo-young tries to encourage them, telling them they managed to stop Kang-soo’s stock manipulation and expose Navis Well-Being. Moo-young tells them he plans to file a class-action lawsuit against Navis Well-Being for them to be charged with fraud.

However, they suspect Navis Well-Being might get rid of the evidence when the police come to search their headquarters. So, they plan on how to obtain any useful evidence before Navis Well-Being gets rid of it.

News outlets are now reporting on Kang-soo’s planned stock manipulation scheme and Navis Well-Being’s pyramid scheme. Young-ki is even invited to one news station to report on these allegations. Young-ki brings the spotlight on Yeon Tae-hoon’s blog that exposed Darusa International’s pyramid scheme. As it turns out, Yeon Tae-hoon is interviewed on this matter.

Meanwhile, Jang Kyung-ja is hiding out at a hotel, pretending to be sick. One of Navis Well-Being’s administrators, Kim Yeol, comes to tell Jang Kyung-ja that there’s no evidence tying her to Kang-soo’s stock manipulation scheme. However, Navis Well-Being has been exposed, and now people are asking to be refunded the money they invested. Of course, this infuriates Kyung-ja, and she orders Kim Yeol to do something about this.

At Park & Cue Law Firm, Moo-young asks Park Kyu and his other colleagues, Park In-young and Jo Jae-hoon, to help him with the class-action lawsuit he plans on filing against Navis Well-Being.

Lee Ro-um meets with Jay and asks him if he was the one who hacked into Da-jung’s computers and played the recording of Lee Ro-um on the show when she was young. Jay seemingly denies it, and they start going back and forth about both of them promising to help each other. Jay had asked Lee Ro-um to keep him and Jang Kyung-ja safe; in return, he’s to give Lee Ro-um the revolver back. Amid their argument, Lee Ro-um mentions that Jang Kyung-ja knows who “the President” is.

Elsewhere, Young-ki is given a choice by his boss at the news outlet he works for to either stop investigating Navis Well-Being or get fired. Young-ki decides to quit and continue investigating Navis Well-Being with Lee Ro-um, Moo-young, and the rest of the team.

Lee Ro-um, Ring-go, and Da-jung are trying to recover the evidence they got when they hacked into Navis Well-Being’s system when Lee Ro-um receives a text message. The message shows what seems like the torture chamber where Lee Ro-um, Da-jung, Ring-go, and Na-sa were tortured when they were at Jeokmok Foundation. This picture was also accompanied by the message “See you soon.” This is most likely “the President.”

Navis Well-Being begins destroying any data that may serve as evidence against them. They even make their members sign a Non-disclosure agreement. Yoo-ll and Yoo-neung manage to get the documents Navis Well-Being shredded to get rid of any evidence. Da-jung informs the team that she discovered that Navis Well-Being transferred funds to an overseas corporation under the name Ji Seung-don.

Young-ki then tells them that he discovered that Ji Seung-don once donated a huge sum of money to Jeokmok Foundation. Lee Ro-um asks Moo-young about the progress of the class-action lawsuit. Moo-young tells her that Navis Well-Being’s members are afraid of coming forward as witnesses because they already made payments to Navis Well-Being, so they’re afraid to lose money.

Jang Kyung-ja meets with one of “the President’s” messengers who she had met earlier. Now that Kang-soo is dead, Jang Kyung-ja is in trouble with “the president.” However, Jang Kyung-ja seemingly threatens to expose the identity of “the president.” She then tells the messenger to inform “the President” that she wants to leave the country in exchange for her loyalty.

Elsewhere, Ring-go asks Na-sa if he could get him a lighter that’s identical to the one Jang Kyung-ja has, with the memory card hidden in it. Ring-go then tells Na-sa he’ll ask Jay to switch Jang Kyung-ja’s lighter with the one he’ll give him.

The team then plans to set up a fake loan firm. Da-jung finds the contact information of Navis Well-Being’s members. They then send messages to the members about their qualifying for loans. And since almost all of them are in debt because of Navis Well-Being’s pyramid scheme, they fall for the fake loan firm’s loan offers.

What the team is planning to do is to obtain information about Navis Well-Being pyramid scheme payments from the members, and use it as evidence. They’ll then refer them to Park & Cue Law Firm for legal advice, where Park Kyu, Jo Jae-hoon, and Park In-young will convince them to become witnesses for the lawsuit case. Fortunately, their plan works.

A few days later, one of Navis Well-Being’s members brings in another member to ask for a loan. It turns out it’s Moo-young’s mother. Of course, Lee Ro-um is shocked to see her. Moo-young had told her that his mother left when things were hard after his father’s company went bankrupt.

Lee Ro-um decides to tell Moo-young’s mother the truth about what they’re trying to do. Then, Moo-young walks in and sees his mother. Fortunately, Moo-young isn’t resentful and promises to help his mother get her money back from Navis Well-Being. Elsewhere, Moo-young’s father is drunk somewhere, and it seems someone is following him.

Moo-young goes to see Jang Kyung-ja to ask her to turn herself in and claim responsibility for Navis Well-Being’s pyramid scheme. But, Jang Kyung-ja seemingly refuses to do so and claims to also be a victim in this case. Of course, Moo-young is having none of that.

As Moo-young leaves Jang Kyung-ja’s hotel room, Jay asks him if he’s still helping Lee Ro-um. Moo-young tells him he is helping her, unlike him, who’s busy helping Jang Kyung-ja.

Da-jung tells Lee Ro-um that she discovered that Ji Seung-don was hospitalized at a hospital An Chae-hong went to the night he died. She also tells her that Ji Seung-don was being taken care of by an orphan from an orphanage he had sponsored.

The police head to Navis Well-Being’s headquarters after they received a tip that they had hidden evidence against the company in a secret room. They locate the secret room, obtain the evidence and arrest Kim Yeol.

Jay asks Ring-go to meet so he can give her the Jang Kyung-ja’s lighter with the memory card. They had met earlier, and Ring-go convinced Jay to get the lighter for him. Meanwhile, Lee Ro-um receives a text from an unknown number with an address, so she heads to that place.

Jang Kyung-ja is heading to the airport to leave the country. It seems “the President” headed to her demand. She has the lighter in her hand when she realizes it has been switched. She then decides to go look for Jay.

Park Kyu calls Moo-young to tell him that Mr Kang had asked about him and Lee Ro-um investigating Jeokmok Foundation. They both realize Mr Kang knows more about Jeokmok Foundation. Just then, Moo-young hears Mr Kang at his door.

Lee Ro-um arrives at the place the unknown number directed her to. She finds an encyclopedia with a sticky note directing her to a particular page. We’re then taken back to the day Lee Ro-um was picked to go join Jeokmok Foundation. It turns out it was Jay who picked her up that day.

Back to the present, Ring-go meets with Jay, and he gives him the lighter. Ring-go takes the memory card and connects it to his phone. He then reads its contents and finds out that “the President” is Jay! Meanwhile, Lee Ro-um has seemingly realized the exact same thing too.

Woo Young-ki calls Da-jung, and sends her a photo of the orphan that was taking care of Ji Seung-don. It seems they recognize her because they start panicking and calling Ring-go. The episode ends with Jay seemingly shooting Ring-go with the revolver he had promised to return to Lee Ro-um.

The Episode Review

This episode has taken a turn that no one expected it to take. So, it turns out Jay is the president of the Jeokmok Foundation. And to think that he has been right under everyone’s noses, just quiet and observing everything that was happening. So, did Jang Kyung-ja know Jay is the President? Judging by how she reacted after she realized her lighter with the memory card was switched, she may well have done.

Also, what exactly does Mr Kang know about Jeokmok Foundation? And will he tell Moo-young about it? I wonder if Jay shot Ring-go. It would be sad if he did because Ring-go was doing all this for Lee Ro-Um, and not for himself.
