3 Reasons To Look Forward To The Upcoming Historical Drama “Moonshine”

Dec 11, 2021

KBS’s upcoming drama “Moonshine” is gearing up for its premiere!

“Moonshine” is a historical drama set in the Joseon era, during the time when prohibition laws were at their strongest. The series will tell the love story of Kang Ro Seo, a struggling aristocrat who starts illegally making alcohol in order to support her family (played by Girl’s Day’s Hyeri), and Joseon’s greatest inspector Nam Young, who is known for living a very principled life (played by Yoo Seung Ho).

Here are three reasons to anticipate this new drama:

1. A variety of stories that are like cheongju (clear wine)

“Moonshine” will be a story that both drinkers and non-drinkers will be able to enjoy. In a previous interview, Hyeju said, “Our drama is based on [an era] of prohibition laws, so diverse types of traditional liquor will be introduced. It will be interesting to see the characteristics of various alcohols.” The story is also expected convey the taste and scent of alcohol by showcasing the way Kang Ro Seo makes and distributes alcohol. The production team will provide an intriguing plot through beautiful screens, sets, and scenes.

2. The love, friendship, and growth of youth that is like tangy rice wine

Another reason why viewers will fall in love with “Moonshine” is the love and friendship created by the four lead characters played by Yoo Seung Ho, Hyeri, Byun Woo Seok, and Kang Mina. Byun Woo Seok plays Lee Pyo, a crown prince who shirks his duties and frequently sneaks out of the palace to drink illegally. Kang Mina plays Han Ae Jin, the beloved only daughter of a high-ranking noble family.

Nam Young was born in the distant provinces, but came up to Hanyang (modern-day Seoul) in order to revive his family’s fortunes. He is a stickler for rules, but he somehow ends up living under the same roof as Kang Ro Seo, who bends all the rules. Furthermore, Kang Ro Seo gets tangled up with Lee Pyo, the alcoholic crown prince, without knowing his identity, and Nam Young and Han Ae Jin get connected before they even see each other.

These four young people, who will fatefully get intertwined together, will jump into a world they didn’t know before, get drunk on love, and become friends with each other. They will also struggle with similar problems that youth have today and grow to become mature people who protect what they believe in.
