“SKY Castle” Overtakes “Goblin” To Set Highest Viewership Ratings In Cable Network History

As recorded by Nielsen Korea, the January 19 episode of the drama recorded average nationwide viewership ratings of 22.3 percent, which is a 2.4 percent increase from the drama’s previous personal record of 19.9 percent set for the January 18. This is a new record for the highest viewership ratings in cable network history, including both dramas and non-dramas.
The previous cable network record of 20.5 percent was held by tvN’s “Goblin” from January 21, 2017. At the time, “Goblin” broke the record for cable networks for the first time in 22 years, and “SKY Castle” broke its record around the same time two years later.
Currently, the top three cable dramas with the highest viewership ratings for an episode according to Nielsen Korea are “SKY Castle,” “Goblin,” and “Reply 1988,” which peaked at 18.8 percent for its final episode.
“SKY Castle” started with viewership ratings of 1.7 percent during episode one and has since grown exponentially in popularity. The drama continues to generate an extraordinary amount of buzz both on and offline, which has even led to the leaking of scripts. With two episodes remaining, many are wondering what new records the drama will set before it comes to an end.
“SKY Castle” will air its final two episodes on January 25 and 26 at 11 p.m. KST and will soon be available on Dramacool.
