Recap Korean Drama "Big Mouth 2022" Episode 3 with Lee Jong Suk and Im Yoon Ah

Aug 5, 2022

Big Mouth episode 3 starts with a desperate Chang-ho trying to make the prison guards kill him – it’s the easiest way, in his mind, to give Mi-ho a break from this craziness. As he is almost shot, Yoon-gab remembers Ji-hoon’s words – they cannot let Chang-ho die under any circumstance. When the warden informs him of the night’s incidents, Ji-hoon repeats the same instruction and promises to reward him handsomely after he gets his money back.

As Chang-ho laments the direction his life has taken and why Mi-ho joins her new job at Gucheon Hospital. Things go to shit on her first day itself, and after performing CPR on her own on a dying patient, she later learns from a very stern Joo-hee that all patients on the seventh floor of the cancer ward have a do not resuscitate order. She later overhears the next-of-kin of a patient almost being forced to sign such a notice.

She finds it odd and mentions it to Gi-gwang and Soon-tae, summarizing that it must have something to do with Jae-young’s thesis paper. However, that conversation ends abruptly when Soon-tae gives him the divorce papers, resulting in a meltdown and a promise of violence. Unfortunately for her, Chang-ho is in solitary confinement and can’t take visitors.

The next day, Yoon-gab has something up his sleeve, realizing that if Chang-ho really is Big Mouse, then it opens up new possibilities for him. After a grouping session goes wrong and the guards start to hit on one of the prisoners, Chang-ho steps in and reminds Yoon-gab that even those incarcerated have rights that must be given to them.

Unfortunately, standing up for what is right doesn’t work in his favour, and he is taken away to do the worst jobs, including scraping poop, with the other Grade C prisoners. In the meantime, Chun-sik hires someone to do some damage to Chang-ho. The warden sounds the alarm just in time and Chang-ho isn’t stabbed, but he does get into a fistfight that ends in blows exchanged between the two.

The guards stop the guy, and Chang-ho realizes that the three Three Musketeers aren’t the ones who turned him into Big Mouse. Anyway, the warden asks him to give him 5 million won from the money he stole from Lala Capital as a thank you for saving him so many times. Furthermore, he also mentions that Chang-ho is alive because Ji-hoon believes him to be Big Mouse, the day his cover is blown, both he and his family will see a gruesome end.

Chang-ho, however, with wild eyes, threatens him not to hurt his wife – if something happens to her, everyone that Yoon-gab knows, including all of their families, will meet a pathetic end. The warden is amused and asks him who he thinks he is, and Chang-ho, in a sudden change, tells him that he is actually Big Mouse and he won’t pay him a single dime. Meanwhile, Mi-ho is getting interrogated, but Joong-lak cannot break her resolve.

After a rather sweet flashback of when Chang-ho proposed to a drunk and vomiting Mi-ho, we see Do-ha creepily stalking Mi-ho crying at the bus stop. That man is so odd and mysterious, and I am so excited to see who he actually is! Anyway, back at home, Do-ha and Joo-hee seem to be having some issues with conceiving. Also, the fact that they are apparently both searching for Jae-young’s thesis paper without luck

At the prison, Chang-ho takes on the role of Big Mouse very seriously, this time running around with poop water and throwing it on the officers. When the warden gets there, he threatens him again that he will murder his family if he doesn’t treat him well, after which Yoon-gab has to agree to his demands. The prisoners are excited, and the Three Musketeers are shocked at the turn of events.

Just when Chang-ho is enjoying his meal, however, he gets called because his lawyer is there to meet him. What he doesn’t know is that Mi-ho is also there to meet him, and it’s a heartbreaking meeting of the lovers. Chang-ho implores her to sign the divorce papers because there is no hope for him, but she makes a good point – would he abandon her if this happened to her? Chang-ho continues to sob, and Mi-ho promises to divorce him after he gets out of prison after clearing his name. Back in solitary confinement, Chang-ho promises to survive for Mi-ho and catch whoever did this to him.

The next morning, Chang-ho embraces himself as Big Mouse.

As his first step, he tells Jerry to tell everyone that he will fulfil everyone’s wishes without any conditions. Word spreads like wildfire throughout the jail, but at first, he only gets three applicants. Thanks to this, we learn some backstories of our secondary characters, all quite sad. Meanwhile, Mi-ho gets into a tiff with Joo-hee, who asks her to leave the hospital because of her husband. She reminds her of the laws and then asks her about Jae-young’s thesis, which Joo-hee mentions doesn’t exist. Without many options, Mi-ho leaves, but she has her doubts about the director.

Outside her office, Mi-ho gets cornered by one of the patient’s guardians, who asks her to help her save her husband – the hospital isn’t letting him leave, but they are refusing to do anything to help him. The conversation is cut short when Park Mi-young gets there, but Mi-ho, obviously, won’t be letting go of it this easily.

Back at the prison, the Three Muskateers agree to pay 3 million won to Yoon-gab to look the other way so that they can handle Chang-ho. Later on, the stabber from before and his henchmen move into Chang-ho’s cell, and as night falls, Chang-ho is on high alert and realizes that the warden must be in on this little murder scheme.

The next day, however, the stabber lets Chang-ho know that he is on his side and is ready to serve him, but later on, as they get ready with weapons and Yoon-gab gives instructions to the guard to not let them stab Chang-ho more than once, you realise it’s all a ruse.

As showtime begins, the two factions start fighting, and in a rather shocking turn, the Three Musketeers mention that Tak Kwang-yeon is supposed to carry out the deed – he is the real stabber. Just as Chang-ho is about to land the final blow, No Bak rushes in to stop him and eventually gets stabbed. Chang-ho seethes in anger as No Bak bleeds profusely – things are about to get ugly.

Well, what a thrilling episode!

Let’s just get one thing out of the way – Lee Jong-suk is absolutely amazing as Chang-ho. His shifts in moods and just so good that you will be confused about whether he is trying to fool us or the authorities. Is he really Big Mouse or not? I personally don’t think so, but man, he’s so good. He’s as scary as Big Mouse as he is sweet and lovable in his emotional moments as Chang-ho. When he breaks down in front of Mi-ho, you won’t be able to make me believe that he wasn’t actually crying!

Apart from this, the stories are really good as well, like – what is in that damn thesis? Did Jae-young cure cancer? Did he create the recipe for everlasting life? I mean, if he died for it, it must be something serious and very rare. What did he find out?!

Also, when will Chang-ho be able to wipe that disgusting grin from Yoon-gab’s face? I must also mention that Jung Jae-sung is also great as Yoon-gab. You’d love to hate him.
