The Impossible Heir (2024) K Drama Episode 9

Mar 27, 2024

Episode 8 shows In-ah in a new light as he physically harms Hye-won, telling her that she is just a pawn in his game. He chose her because Tae-oh wanted her. He wanted to teach him a lesson to not go after his dreams because In-ah would take them away in an instant. This changes Hye-won and she goes to meet Tae-oh. They have a long talk that leads her to make some decisions and Tae-oh to gear up for a battle.

Tae-oh, on the other hand, gets busy by using his nemesis to get a phone. The episode ends with In-ah and Gi-jun waiting to get the news of Tae-oh’s death while Tae-oh gets lured into an abandoned prison cell.

The episode continues from that scene and In-ah confronts the hacker for helping Tae-oh. He pays the hacker’s Italian friend to kill him. Then, he gets a call, shocking him. Tae-oh has escaped from prison. This news sends shockwaves through all the members of the Kangoh family, especially In-ah. He threatens the hacker to find Tae-oh immediately but the latter takes over the Italian friend and decides to double-cross Tae-oh as well.

Na Hye-won, on the other hand, goes berserk looking for Tae-oh and eventually lands back to her mother. Giving her a wad of cash, she asks her to find a person who can search for someone and report to her. After initially saying yes, her mother gets suspicious of the act and calls In-ah to report to him.

The scene changes and we are back to the murder scene but with Tae-oh’s perspective. He finds himself in a dream that meshes with reality. He tries to crawl away in his drugged state but someone comes in front of him and the person turns out to be In-ah. Shocked at the memory, he wakes up and finds himself in front of the Chairman, who helped him escape from the prison and out of the hands of In-ah’s plan.

Perplexed at his gesture, Tae-oh asks him his real intention, to which the Chairman says that In-ah is planning to divide Kangoh and give half to Sa-jin, which he does not want. Tae-oh confesses that the plan was made by him to make In-ah the owner of Kangoh but the time has changed and now, he will make a better plan to remove In-ah.

Na Hye-won gets kidnapped by Mo Gi-jun and finds herself in a mental asylum, chained to the bed. In-ah confronts her for her transgressions and she does not show any remorse. He says that he feels betrayed by her and by double-crossing him, she has made a grave mistake. He gives her one option – to be his person like Han Tae-oh was. Live and breathe for him, that is the only she can survive, which is why she says yes.

On the other hand, the Chairman and Tae-oh are right behind him as they know about his stint with Hye-won. Tae-oh promises to help the Chairman regain Kangoh if he offers Kangoh Energy to Sa-jin, to one-up In-ah. They plan to make the official proposal and offer it to him. Once Sa-jin takes it, Tae-oh will bring it all back. Believing him, the Chairman tells Sa-jin his offer. Latter doesn’t believe him but the Chairman convinces him otherwise.

The Impossible Heir Episode 9 Recap and Review: Tae-oh Gears Up for Revenge; In-ah Marches On
In the next scene, we see Hui-ju who asks the legal team to find Tae-oh for her. Later, they call her and tell her that there is something wrong with the Chairman’s office as nobody is allowed to enter it and only the Hospital director is seen entering and leaving – making them think that Tae-oh is in his office. Initially, In-ah had the same reaction but the hospital director did not give him any answer.

Hui-ju goes to talk to her father but she finds him floating in the bathtub, not breathing and the broken wineglass around him. Shocked at the scene in front of her, she forgets about Tae-oh and goes to save him.

The episode ends with Tae-oh going back to the crime scene and thinking about all the memories he can bring back of that fateful night. He looks around and remembers one important piece of evidence – Bo-na’s phone that recorded all night, including the murder and the people behind it.

As we near the end of the show, the penultimate episodes have become more twisted and revenge-heavy. While In-ah seems to be gaining the most amount of power in the shortest time, it seems as though he will fall just as quickly. Lee Jun-young has done a brilliant job as Kang In-ah, a selfish chaebol heir whose goal is to be better than everyone else. His madness to protect what’s his, the craze for revenge, etc. is done extremely well, making us hate him even more.

Tae-oh, in this episode, seems to be more confused in the beginning and extremely determined at the end. One can see that he treated the friendship as one of the most precious relationships in his life and the betrayal hurts him the most. We are excited to see his plan as the capable Han Tae-oh that he is.

Na Hye-won continues to not have any impact on the story. In the last episodes, the makers have been trying to give her more influence in the flow of the story but she is insignificant. Her need for revenge and the steps she takes to make her name – seem over-the-top and out of character for her.
